iOS 16 Drops Support for iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, Original iPhone SE and More

Apple's newly announced iOS 16 operating system is compatible with many of the iPhones that are able to run iOS 15, but it does drop support for some older devices, including the iPhone SE, the iPhone 6s, the iPhone 6s Plus, the iPod touch, and the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

According to Apple, iOS 16 will be available only on the iPhone 8 and later, with a full compatibility list below:

• iPhone 13
• iPhone 13 mini
• iPhone 13 Pro
• iPhone 13 Pro Max
• iPhone 12
• iPhone 12 mini
• iPhone 12 Pro
• iPhone 12 Pro Max
• iPhone 11
• iPhone 11 Pro
• iPhone 11 Pro Max
• iPhone XS
• iPhone XS Max
• iPhone XR
• iPhone X
• iPhone 8
• iPhone 8 Plus
• iPhone SE (2nd generation or later)

As for iPadOS 16, it is compatible with the following iPads:

• iPad Pro (all models)
• iPad Air (3rd generation and later)
• iPad (5th generation and later)
• iPad mini (5th generation and later)

iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 are available to developers starting today, with Apple set to provide a public beta later this summer.

I'm of the thinking the 7 series was dropped as they were the last to have the Fusion generation of chipsets. The iPhone 8 was sold with a Bionic chipset and that is what is required as a minimum for iOS 16 to function properly.

I'm thinking the X (A11) will get 2 more versions of iOS.. My X still works extremely well on iOS15 so iOS16 shouldn't be an issue

Well, let me ask this. My best friend gave me his XS Max with 256 GB storage, but the screen is cracked.

Its $330 at Apple. Would you rather I drop $700+ for a new 256 GB iPhone, or pay the $330 for the XS Max?
