So only devices with Bionic chips are supported...

Okay, iOS 15.6 or whatever will be the last version then...

Wow. Surprised they ditched the 7/7+..
Me too. Given that it's basically a big iPhone 7, I'm worried my 2017 iPad Pro 10.5" might be on the iPadOS 16 chopping block...

Edit: Just found the list for iPad. All iPad Pros go on to survive another year.

I'm thinking the X (A11) will get 2 more versions of iOS.. My X still works extremely well on iOS15 so iOS16 shouldn't be an issue
Apple typically gives iPhones, 5 or 6 updates including the version it ships with except for the 6s which got 7 update versions, iOS 16 makes 6 for the iPhone X so good chance this will be the last update for the X but maybe one more update at most

I have the original SE, and when I say it barely works, I'm not lying. I'm kinda glad they dropped it..
I have two original iPhone SE's. Use one as a dedicated device with my treadmill and it still seems fast to me. Can surf the web just fine without noticeable delays. Recently thought that I might want to go back to it because of the size. Very convenient for my small hands. Still don't blame Apple for dropping support.

Another clear and obvious sign of planned obsolescence. Apple should be ashamed!

My 6s plus has served me well.

Well it is completely arbitrary, given that the iPad 5 is getting iPadOS 16, when it's basically a scaled up 6S. If anything it should be the other way around, the iPhone should run it, the iPad which is pushing more pixels with more complicated apps, should not.

Can't say I'm too surprised by this. So many of their features require the neural engine now and plus the A11 is the first SoC with their own GPUs. Also, with a big.LITTLE architecture that uses both sets of cores at once as well as with no 32-bit instruction sets. This probably allows them to clean up the code considerably.

I'm of the thinking the 7 series was dropped as they were the last to have the Fusion generation of chipsets. The iPhone 8 was sold with a Bionic chipset and that is what is required as a minimum for iOS 16 to function properly.

Then how are the iPad 5, iPad 6, iPad Pro 9.7, iPad Pro 12.9, iPad Pro 2nd gen (10.5 and 12.9) getting iPadOS 16, when they are all A9 or A10 devices?

Given the much larger batteries in iPads, I wonder if Apple's concern is with battery life rather than general performance. It's the only difference between the A9-A10 iPads and iPhones.

Well, let me ask this. My best friend gave me his XS Max with 256 GB storage, but the screen is cracked.

Its $330 at Apple. Would you rather I drop $700+ for a new 256 GB iPhone, or pay the $330 for the XS Max?
Could you have a 3rd-party vendor change the cracker screen cheaper...then use that as a trade-in for a new phone?
