WOW. Apple should market this much more. These are really annoying.

I hate this so much. I hate it even more for some sites I put in my user name and password, and I still have to do this.

I'm afraid that this is not a good idea.

Without practice, those humans using this auto-verification process will no longer be able to easily discern the requested objects; they'll be out of practice! I'm totally against this. It's just like not teaching cursive writing to American kids these days. Apparently many can no longer read cursive writing which means they'll have problems reading certain key documents.

I kid! 😆This is a great feature.

And also, I did recently learn that there are young folks these days, even in college, who can't read cursive. See this article "Gen Z Never Learned to Read Cursive" from The Atlantic.

Ehm, excuse me, doesn't this defies the CHAPTA's purpose entirely?
If a device can do it autonomously the "verify you're human" thing won't do the trick anymore.
I wonder the repercussions of this.
i hate websites that don’t feature these because they will legit support bot shopping meaning why prices on second hand brand new products are bananas.

iOS 16 has a new Automatic Verification feature that can bypass CAPTCHA prompts by automatically and privately verifying a user's device and Apple ID account via iCloud. The feature is designed to eliminate the need to tap on images of traffic lights or decipher squiggly text to prove that you are a real human being and not a robot.

Automatic Verification is limited to websites and apps that support Private Access Tokens, but adoption of the feature should get a big boost thanks to Cloudflare, which today announced that it is making a free API called Turnstile available to any website looking to eliminate CAPTCHAs — even if the website is not a Cloudflare customer.

Cloudflare explained how the technology works in a blog post:Turnstile is available in beta starting today via the Cloudflare dashboard or a sign-up form. As websites begin to adopt Turnstile, the prevalence of annoying CAPTCHAs across websites and apps will decrease over time.

Automatic Verification is enabled by default on iPhones running iOS 16 and can be found in the Settings app under Apple ID → Password & Security → Automatic Verification. The feature is also supported on iPadOS 16.1 and macOS Ventura, which both remain in beta testing and will be released in October, according to Apple.

But, but I like playing the CAPTCHA game befor entering the page, well actually I like complaining when an ambiguous CAPTCHA tells me that was never a traffic light, oh yes it bloody well is, look if you zoom in you can clearly see a corner of the post, so that qualifie, get F****** act together you pedantic miserable piece of softwar. There that told them!

If it works as advertised, this would be an awesome feature. CAPTCHA is incredibly annoying.

Agreed but if you're a web developer why take the time and resources to support this knowing you'll still need to support CAPTCHA for all of your other users?

This! So many of these involve working out, “do they want the real answer, or what I think they think is the real answer?”.
It is my understanding that nowadays just pausing for that could get you verified… the reaction times, the hesitation, the mouse movements can make you pass through even if the captcha wasn’t solved completely correct, as this is actual human behavior.

Actually, I've seen a few captchas that simply have a checkbox and say, "click here to prove that you're a human".

Why would you not count it? It is clearly part of the vehicle.
A frw times I clicked that itsy bitsy part, and it's wrong. Another times, it's correct. That teeny tiny part is the inconsistency bit of CAPTCHA that I hate the most. :'(

What are the privacy implications of this? CAPTCHA is already a huge privacy issue: when sites use Google’s CAPTCHA to verify a login or post, Google assembles information on that identity and accounts linked to that IP address. The same is likely true of Cloudflare. What does it mean for privacy if Apple is talking to the CAPTCHA service without you seeing it happen?

A robot to prove you're not a robot. ....(Oh the irony.)

Captchas are annoying, but they also serve a purpose: The teach artificial intelligence that is used for driverless cars for example. That is why we are asked to identify traffic lights or all kinds of vehicles so often. Doing a lot of captchas makes us all safer.

iCloud Private Relay triggers CAPTCHAs for me on Safari regardless of using VPN with Google, it’s so annoying

Did you make this up or is that true? I never thought about that, but it makes sense actually.

It also teaches robots to how to defeat the anti-robot security.😱

Ermm...if Skynet is following this thread, please note that I had previously welcomed our robotic overlords.😁
