It's nice that it will be possible to allow/disallow the notifications for specific mail accounts, though I expected that to be optional, and by default the notifications to be disabled globally for the app, but have an option to also set up a more fine grained focus filter if one has more specific needs.
Hope that is just a bug in the beta release as it's still in early stages. Or maybe your focus mode had the Allow time sensitive notifications enabled?
Thanks for sharing this, can't wait to see the final version.
It works as expected on the phone (iOS 16) so at the moment I'm assuming it's a MacOS bug.

From the beginning of time, I just turn off notifications for most apps. Apps need to justify why they need to send me notifications and only send me transactional notifications. So, I have no use for the bulk of this feature. Maybe just focus, presenting and bedtime.

The most annoying part of Focus and Time Sensitive “features” is having to respond to a “Leave on/off” dialog that now pops up “smartly” for you, when you didn’t even ask for it. Features that I didn’t ask for, that purportedly save me from being bothered, are now interrupting me to ask me if I don’t want to be interrupted…

Apple, why don’t you work on something people are asking for, like fixing the Podcasts app?

Just bring us back to the iOS 14 days - the new options are too complicated for the majority of users to setup who just want a mode to silence notifications only if your phone is locked. They should have just added an exception list for apps/people when enabled that would be optional to setup.

Just bring back design of iOS 6 - it was beautiful, pleasant for eyes, clear and intuitive.

You can setup watch faces?! That’s sweet! I have an automation to do that for my watch but now I can skip it!

This could potentially turn into a "user profiles" feature with how much customizability they're adding to each "focus mode". Think about it. You want a work profile? Just switch from your home profile. You want a gym profile? Switch. Same concept as having multiple people sharing a device.

On paper when you read about all the complexity with ‘focus mode’, it seems like it’s a lot. But like anything, through repetition and using it frequently, I’m sure it’s something most will quickly learn. It’s pretty diverse, but it has a lot of useful features that I definitely will take advantage of.
Most will never try. This is niche.

This feature looks more like a shortcut/Automator category than a general user setting.

Yeah, it's getting (slowly) better. Which is good, because Automations have stayed totally crap (imo).

I had an automation that ran when I started a particular Focus mode and put the phone into low-battery mode, just to preserve as much as possible. That option is now part of the Focus mode itself, which saves an automation.

Yikes, what an absolute mess.looks like yet another case of Apple engineers trying to show productivity working from home where there was 0 need to.

Way too complex

Even on ios 15 i don’t understand if a ‘focus’ will do what i think

I just turn off all notifications on any app that annoys me. I dont have’work’ and’ home’. No point. Keep it simple.

I only found out last week that the switch will only silence things if the phone is locked. /screen off ! Ive been using iPhone since 2010.

iOS asked me lots of times if it shall switch to personal mode when I back to home while I‘m working at home!
Now I donˋt use any focus mode but simple put the phone in silent 24x7. Then let my arm band decide if I need notification at all.

Not getting all the hate here. You can make it as complex as you want. Or as simple as you want.

The filter functions for mail and calendar on the other hand are, for me, a total lifesaver. Being able to check my personal mail in the evening and weekend without my brain getting back switched on and stressed because of seeing all the work crap is a feature I’ve been wanting for years.

Focus mode seems not very Apple like. Overly complex, too customisable and extremely confusing.

The tech got in the way of the thing it wants to fix, so this would never have been released under Jobs. He would have wanted a much more intuitive solution.

But instead of Apple figuring out when to notify the user about what, they just gave up and left it to the user to customise everything themselves.

Very disappointing approach. Reminds me of the Siri Shortcuts mess.
