This is a perfect example of a piece of software offering a subscription where it's entirely not necessary. If you want to use this app and are perfectly happy with the functionality it offers today, there should be an option to purchase it outright.

I understand that developers want to be paid for the ongoing development of their software and that makes sense if there are new features to be added in future. But when you're buying a set of features that are already there and you're happy to live with them perpetually, let's see a standard purchase option.

I agree, but there are two factors driving this I think.

One is that this dev probably knows this is a limited window of opportunity. Now that the lock screen is shipped, surely within the next year we will get more options, likely including this one. So the clock is ticking to make that money.

And speaking of making money, sadly there’s little reason not to make this app a subscription. Pricing has gotten so wild lately that even if there were an outright purchase option it would probably still be an IAP and cost like $30.

LockLauncher works way better than the app mentioned in the article. I downloaded both and for a one-time purchase of $0.99 I would choose LockLauncher 17 times over before I paid a yearly subscription of $17 to Launchify.
I’m struggling to get it to work, FAQ says I need to install a shortcut but the gallery doesn’t load from the link. Any tips? Thanks

Free version is good enough for me, no one in their right minds should pay a subscription for this. Now my widget setup is exactly like it was when I was using the complication tweak, I’m so happy!

Edit; thank you comment section, lock launcher is much better!

Downloaded then saw there’s a subscription fee and instantly deleted it.

Found a completely free version a few minutes later.

Now my lock screen looks like an android phone sans a google search bar.

Stupid to charge a monthly or yearly fee for something such as a ONE TIME purchase as this. If they need to make some money then maybe they should charge a nominal fee like 99¢ or $1.99 for the app as it is. This “Launchify” app isn’t even new.

I’m currently going to test this App as the In-App purchase is currently offered for FREE, yes you read that right!
Wow, this is SO much better!

Glad I read the comments first. Now I won't download this and waste my time. Thank you comments section.

*salutes*

Thank you!

Cool idea but not for me. Notifications For junk food Apps like instagram, Facebook and Twitter stay off. Also I keep those apps hidden or in some cases not installed. FYI if I did Business with these apps it would be different. For me it’s about spending time wisely and using the phone as a tool. Habits!

Lock Launcher with its free PRO upgrade (however long that lasts) seems to be the way to go. Using it now and it works very well and has an extensive amount of features.

I don’t even recall seeing a pro option

Go into (I am guessing) advanced and look for something that says INFORMATION ON PRO

I was able to get it for free.

Out of curiosity, let me know if it works for you.

I’ve never been in the “all SaaS is horrible” camp but I just don’t see how you justify a subscription for this.

I just downloaded it and it was completely free

Apple is still forcing the flashlight and camera buttons to remain on the Lock Screen. God, that’s irritating.
I don't mind the flashlight so much. But the camera icon makes no sense to me, because all you have to do is swipe to the left from the lock screen and you're in the camera app, no icon needed. Apple should simply let us pick the icons we want to have down there.

I haven't figured out how to configure the new Lock Screen yet. Each time I try, it first tries to force me to choose a different Lock Screen image. My current image is from my Pictures folder and I want to keep it, but the Lock Screen setup won't give me access to that folder. Weird.

I have used an app called Launcher before iOS 16 and they just updated to allow app launching from the home screen.

Agree, I've used Launcher for years and it continues to be supported and updated.
