I’m loving 16 so far but it’s been a huge (comparatively) battery leech on my iPhone 12.. It’s pretty alarming.. I hope they address that asap, as otherwise I have no issues at all.

Have you tried a manual install of IPSW of iOS 15.7 using iTunes [Windows] or Finder [macOS]?
Thanks winxmac
I downloaded it from ioshacker iTunes file 15.7. It's not available on :apple: support side. I may wait, worried I'm loosing too much of my content as it'll wipe it clear as far as I know. I have a back up on iTunes but further back of 2022. So I'm hopeful that :apple: will bring an update!! 15.7 will be my last resort!! ;)

Ya! How ya like them widgets?

My 12 too was bad at first. However it’s back to almost pre-16 now that phone spend 1.5 days churning through 16K pics/vids at iCloud finding (and sorting out) ~ 1.6K duplicates.

I think the thing that held back faster iOS 15 adoption was CSAM. I remember seeing a lot of (negative) coverage for that.

With iOS 16 most people have forgotten about it since Apple put CSAM rollout on pause.
I haven't and I won't.

I upgraded to iOS 16 because it is required by my employer, but I do wish Apple would publicly and formally kill the CSAM scanning spying software once and for all. I am still not buying any new Apple products because of it. FWIW I am quite happy for Apple to scan on its servers - they're Apple's property after all. However, I don't want them scanning locally on my iPhone, which is my property. For that there should be probable cause and a search warrant.

Having your employer require you to update to ios 16 is one way to get an update on the books.

However, all you have to do is turn off icloud and the scanning will stop. And while we can hope CSAM scanning goes away, I wouldn't hold my breath. That you are not buying any Apple products I'm sure this type of thinking has been factored into Apples' sales projections (however they might measure it). Just wait until the first class action lawsuit comes up about CSAM scanning and we will know which way the wind is blowing.

My mother has an iPad mini 2 which I think is on IOS 12 and as far as I know still gets security updates
Interesting - I thought it had been quite some time since they put out an iOS 12 update, but it seems there was one at the end of August of this year, likely to patch the same major security hole that they patched with iOS 15.6.1. That said it had been a year since there was an update for iOS 12, so I think they are only patching critical security issues at this point.

For iOS 15 I would expect regular security updates for (up to) a couple years (for all iOS 15 devices until iOS 16.1 is released, then only for devices that don't support iOS 16 after that), followed by critical patches only for another year or two after that.

IPSW.me and theiphonewiki.com are two websites I go to for IPSW direct link downloads... The file links point to Apple servers...

If you are already on iOS 16.x then you will need to restore to iOS 15.7 and restore your files from a backup... However if you are worried about files that may get lost or deleted, you can backup first either through iTunes [Windows] or Finder [macOS] or iCloud or any other app that has iOS backup and data transfer feature...

If you need someone to hold your hand through the process, I am not a good resource person but you can check a few YouTube videos or ask others in this website...

I barely save anything on my iPhone so downgrading to a lower major version will not be an issue for me... It's just that right now I don't have a device compatible with iOS 16.x so I don't need to go through what you are about to do [go back to iOS 15.x from iOS 16.x]

At the current time, Apple is allowing iPhone users to stay on iOS 15 if desired by providing security updates, and updating to iOS 16 is not yet required. Apple did the same thing last year with the launch of iOS 15, allowing people to remain on iOS 14 for about four months after the update launched.

iOS 15/iPadOS 15 will be supported much longer than iOS 14/iPadOS 14, since Apple left no upgrade path for the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone SE (1st generation), iPod touch (7th generation), iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 4.

The irony is that by dropping new major releases, Apple will have to support iOS 15/iPadOS 15 longer. This has already happened with iOS 12 which has been updated for 4 years.
