It would be cool if they’d enable it for all iOS 16-supported models since it is such a popular way to use one’s phone nowadays, especially with all the food delivery/ride-sharing apps.
I am not sure why they got rid of it in the first place!!!!

Beta 4 Tuesday.

I hope 16.3 is more exciting 🥱
Doubtful. Apple is typically closed all week of Thanksgiving. :( However, Beta 3 is really running well so........

[Edit] Not finding anything specific about this year so perhaps they are only off at the end of the week like normal. Several years they opted to allow corp employees off all week. Guess its not always tho.

Brandon Butch on YouTube believes there will be an update this week and alluded to Apple possibly only being off towards the end of the week… Take that for what it's worth.

I believe the iOS 14 update disabled the Horizontal Home Screen and have heard people suggest that it happened due to the introduction of Home Screen widgets. Rotating your home screen with widgets using various placements & sizes makes organising them and the apps consistently a bit tricky as there is no one-size-fits-all-solution.

I miss it too, that was a mega feature, especially when docking your phone in your car or on a nightstand by your bed. Horizontal always seemed like the appropriate alignment for situations like those.

They could always just take the same approach as they did for iPad. If you setup a Home Screen, widgets & Icons, all in a specific way while in Landscape and then move to portrait mode, you can have all of those same icons in a completely different order with the widgets all in different places. It's quite cool.

I understand what you're saying about the alignment or placement, but it seems like that've figured that part out just fine.

Oh yeah, in terms of feasibility I'm right there with you. It can 100% be done and should've never been removed as an option. It's hilariously unintuitive and a definite step backwards.

It just seemed like too much of a coincidence that the year they finally update the Home Screen with widgets was also the year they quietly took away the Horizontal rotate. The timing definitely warrants potential correlation.

Maybe they just didn't like the way it looked on a smaller screen vs. the iPad. Apple has always had these strange software hang-ups (think the lack of native weather & calculator apps for the iPad) where they will massively sacrifice functionality for form. Ironically, they've recently taken the opposite direction with their hardware, especially the new MacBooks, and I am certainly thankful for that!

Another hilarious software discrepancy that comes to mind is how Apple insists on showing the name of a Home Screen Widget on the iPhone, a smaller screen that could use a little less clutter vs. not having that requirement at all on the iPad or the MacOS sidebar, which are both far more spacious in terms of screen real estate to begin with.

I think most people would agree that there is absolutely no need to see the name for a widget they have themselves, very intentionally, placed onto their own Home Screen, but Apple doesn't agree...specifically for the iPhone though 😆

Wouldn’t rule out 16.1.2
I would rule that out though.
that would have been possible if beta 1/2 was current. however with beta 3 already out, little justification for a point release with no particular crisis in sight.

Sort of my thinking. As they aren’t off all week, be a wasted opportunity to miss Tuesday as TG isn’t till towards the end of the week.

Seems like employees get rewarded with a full week off around Thanksgiving when the company is doing particularly well; I don’t see why this year would be any different.

Guess we’ll just have to wait until tomorrow to find out. 😼

I don't think we are getting anything this week. Everyone is pretty much on vacation already.

iOS 16.2 Beta 4.

0.1% - Tomorrow (Tuesday, November 21, 2022).
99.9% - Next Week (Tuesday, November 29, 2022).

Let's get it!
iOS 16.2 beta is out tomorrow because apple are on thanksgiving on Thursday its not all week and apple are not on vacation today or tomorrow or Wednesday. only Thursday they on holiday.
