Wasn't the new HK architecture the culprit for the delay?
If it was it could have been implemented like universal control, where they disable it and bring it back when it's been better written/tested in a another release. Seems like it would be something else maybe related to unannounced hardware.

Interesting. Sounds like iOS and the others really may have to take a back seat to realityOS... or could be the opposite, taking some focus off the headset to work on other things.

Apple could fix this by actually giving people some info as to what the hell is going on.

This isn’t just about people addicted to the latest thing and always being on beta software. It’s about the fact that 16.3 is fundamentally broken, notifications have been broken for what 5 months now without a fix? But the worst part is the battery drain that nobody has been able to figure out, I was getting almost 2 day battery life when the 14 pro max first came out, now I have to fully charge my phone twice a day. For everyone that uses their phone for work this can be quite a pia. I paid too much money for this phone for these sort of problems.

I wonder if 16.4 will never even come out and they’ll just wait for iOS 17.

Apple needs to put out a statement regarding an unreleased iOS developer beta version because a loud minority of non-developers on Apple-centric websites are having individual issues with their iPhones?

It may be time to go outside

Unfortunately, Apple don't communicate (very rarely). This has always been their dark side and unless they change, this will inevitably will be their downfall. They undoubtedly need to be more transparent.
And I got trolled (or people that know better) :)

Very well put, indeed.

Apple owes no one an explanation about unreleased software. Right now there’s nothing to develop against, so even developers don’t have a right to any info.

Calling iOS 16 fundamentally broken is ridiculous. A very few have issues; the vast majority do not.

Thank goodness for my mute button!

While Apple has had developers adding AR content to apps for the last two years, Apple at this early stage might be allowing developers to use prototype headset at WDC 2023 to test and develop software that uses AR similar to how the DTK (MacMini with a A12X) was used to test AS native software before the M1 Mac appeared.

I will be the first to admit that the issues in iOS are more prevalent as time goes on, it seems. I myself am facing months'-long issues regarding Home app not allowing me to invite my wife and my Apple Watch not connecting to my Wi-Fi network when my phone isn't in range.

That said, I do not think my individual issues entitle me to a statement from Apple, even if others share the same issue and are very loud about it Macrumors or Reddit. The reality is nobody posts when their phones are working just fine, and especially when it comes to battery life, there has never been a single major or minor iOS version where some subset of people have not complained about battery drain. I don't doubt that some people experience drain or other issues, like I am experiencing mine, but the idea that this entitles them to a statement on an unreleased beta (which Apple has never promised or given a timeline for) meant for developers to test their applications and APIs against is nuts.

Additionally, if Apple is messing up so hard and doing such a poor job of development, why would you rush to install a new iOS beta on your non-developer device day one? Wouldn't you in fact be less prone to jump on the beta? The answer, clearly, is that some people are just addicted to the shiniest and newest, to the point of straight up entitlement.

That’s been the working assumption for quite some time now. No one expects ordinary consumers to plunk down up to $3,000 for a Gen 1 product. This is clearly intended as a test bed/development platform. But some consumers may and Apple is happy to take their money.

Apple has been building out the VR/AR environment for a number of years now. ARKit has been part of iOS since 2017. Reality Composer was introduced in (I believe) 2019 to let developers and non-developers alike start playing around with developing AR objects. Apple has standardized (again, I believe) on the USBZ standard for interoperability.

This is just part of the continuum, the final expression of which should be the AR glasses. That’s the ultimate. This headset is just one more (big) step on the road.

It was rumored that ios 16.4 would be released in mid-March, but I don't expect it until the end of April.
Although I also do not rule out that Apple is internally developing and testing the version, and I would not be surprised if they began the process of betas for ios 16.4 from beta 3, the first two being internal testing.

Apple always tests beta software internally first. We will get Developer beta 1 just like always. But, also, as always, the builds we get will be much advanced from the very first versions tested by Apple internally.

It is fundamentally broken no matter what the fanboys say or think, I hope your mute button doesn’t get more attention than your SO.

The thing is not all of us are blessed with the “mute” button. I sure know, I’m not!

We all have it, at least in web view on a Mac or iPad.

See below. (note: I have not blocked my friend Kylo, which is why it says “Ignore”. If I muted him, it would say “unignore”)
