understandable. I can see myself in a scenario like that too.I wouldn’t want that. I often alternate between muting my iPhone and my iPad, because I want one of them to be unmuted, but not both.
People demanded the camera and flash on the Lock Screen. Double tapping for a camera seems stupid to me. The thing is about the camera and flash, I’ll use them like I used them before. Even if I don’t, being where they have been for the last 10 years will make no difference to me.This makes sense, however they should get rid of the camera & flash light from the Lock Screen now, and allow a double click for another function!
Despite the location I find the button very useful, especially last time when I was holding my cat with one hand on the couch and I want to take a photo of it. Haha. The biggest UX issue with the action button is that it's just too high, even on the non-Max phone. Like it's perfect if you hold your phone in your left hand, but in your right hand it's super awkward.
I never touched the mute switch. It’s always muted. I’m okay if Apple just simply remove the button but now they gave us one programmable button, how is it not good?Let’s face it, this was innovation for innovation’s sake.
The old button was just fine and the switch felt good and never caused any issue.
Now they’ve released a half-assed solution and it’s not an improved over what we had.
What they’ve could have done at the very least is make it more ‘smart’, such as allowing a half-press that would bring up a quick menu with a max of 4 customizable actions, versus a full press that would trigger a customizable action instantly.
Or they could have experiment with double press to trigger that quick menu.
Now I have to select a ‘torch’ or ‘camera’. I want both, or else it’s too limited anyway and I’m fine just sticking with a mute switch anyway.
Most of us? Absolutely not. Most of us never touch the mute switch. It was completely useless for a huge portion of us. The new design is much better. If muting and unmuting is important to you, you still have it. If it isn't, this new design makes a useless switch into a useful, programmable button.
I mean, which software company doesn’t like developing their software like Internet explorer? When legal action at foot, they can just say “sorry, the cost of fixing those is too damn high and we don’t want to raise the product price by ten fold”.Just give me the damn option to get rid of the camera and flashlight on my home screen. Or is like Internet Explorer, so baked into the operating system that it will break if they remove it? I know how to swipe down from the top right to access those faster than a McLaren pitstop.
To be fair, that switch on my iPhone XS Max has switched to alarm position without my notice too.If we only had a switch button instead….
Wait a minute
This is how there was 10 seconds of black screen at the end of olivia rodrigo's music video shot on the iPhone 15.
you would have thought they would have tested these features before releasing it. Simple use case scenario's.
While I love the old mute switch design, I mostly used it as a fidget toy since I've never needed to bring my phone out of silent mode. I don't know anyone else around me who still have their ringer on either. If they wanted to add another button, they should have done so without removing the mute switch. This was not a well thought-out design.
