17.1 was not released on Tuesday the 24th, today is Wednesday the 25th and I wonder....
I wonder if 17.1 was released at all to devices in France. I guess not. I haven't heard anything.

I wonder what's the likelihood of 17.1 being released today. It's just 30 minutes to 13:00 in the East Coast. I'm guessing the chances are slim.

Perhaps read the numerous stories on MacRumors about bugs--some of them quite significant.
I just thought it was a few people having problems just like withe everything else in the world. Nothing is perfect for everyone but for the majority of the people, they won't experience the problems you do.

Why slim?

Pretty much a random guess, really. But also, because there's an Apple event coming up (and also apparently it doesn't matter that the French government said this update will be available by 10/24) I'm just guessing Apple is going to issue the 17.1 update on event day or soon after. Perhaps there are some more additions/revisions to make that align with whatever will be announced at the upcoming Apple event. Again, this is all just conjecture of course. Maybe I'll be surprised in 20 minutes when it's 13:00 on the East Coast.

No doubt similar complaints do surface after every x.0 release. Does this mean that all x.0 releases are the same? That none of them is any better (or worse, or especially worse) than the others? If you do work in IT, you should see the problem in your own reasoning. That said, I agree that the Apple ecosystem has grown increasingly complex and sophisticated over the past decade. It's much easier for things to break and for them not to "just work" than was the case in, say, 2011. But that doesn't make it any less frustrating when, for instance, your phone shuts off randomly in the middle of the night due to a kernel panic. Or your new phone overheats when just idling. Etc etc.

I’m merely saying dumpster fire is probably an overly dramatic description for something that is by most measures working fine for billions of devices.

Not to sweep issues under the rug.

Let’s just have a little perspective. The world has bigger things for us to anguish about than if Apple is a day or a week late with an OS dot level version update.

Sure - bugs are annoying. Absolutely.

But dumpster fire?

Look, if there’s a problem with iOS 17.1 on the iPhone 15 series then just release it for everyone else and update the 15 series with 17.1 separately after those bugs are worked out, or push 17.1.1 for those bugs. Apple has done this before with releasing updates just for certain models, so there’s precedence.

I wouldn't call it a dumpster fire either.

It is out! I already installed it, and my iPhone 14 Pro Max feels kind of warm...must be working on something (upgrade from 17.0.3).

As said, maybe a smaller iOS/iPadOS product update (iPad Mini?) to coincide... or maybe they simply want to switch it up for hype, or something??

Yeah, can be a bit annoying updating everything. For me, I have tvOS update itself at least.
The others I manually do an iCloud backup per device, then do the install update.

I always wonder why Apple never sets that a device backup is done first as part of their auto-update procedure setting? Hence me having auto-download update ON, but auto-install updates OFF.
Lol, Wed.25.Oct it was after all, so I was proved entirely wrong.

17.1 just popped up for my phone! Yay. But, going on my less-used iPad first in case of a big case of the kinks.
