How do I get the new version of Apple Music to stop adding every song I favourite to my library?
It's making my music library super messy with single songs being added the whole time.

I really like to have my 'liked' songs seperate with a smart playlist (and also to help the algorithm understand my music tastes) and then my library is more curated and I add full albums there.

This is why I’ll never use this feature. Not sure what Spotify users using their app but my library is carefully curated and I would never allow anything automatically added to it.

Hopefully, a ‘hidden’ item in the release notes is :

iOS 17 now doesn’t destroy your phone’s battery charge.

Question:

The favorites playlist is just a smart playlist that Apple makes for you, but that anyone with a Mac can make for themselves, except:

1. Your own smart playlist is much more capable since you can add more rules (e.g. 30 songs + that I have favorited + that are in the classical genre + that I have listened to more than 20 times)

2. The 17.2 playlist would be useful for anyone who doesn't have access to a Mac since smart playlists can't be created on iOS.

Am I correct? Or is the 17.2 favorites list something very different?

Yeah mac and even iTunes on windows PC can do extremely complex smart playlist. Apple probably wants to push AI-curated list to Apple Music users while keep the iTunes side of playlist untouched, for now.

Do contact posters work for you?.
How to choose that my called party receives the contact poster OR my photo id?.
17.2 is mostly an useless “upgrade” outside USA.

Can any beta testers confirm if the WiFi issue has been resolved? Tempted to download the public beta since it’s been so bad recently. Constant disconnects and apps not loading data. As soon as I turn off WiFi and connect to cellar everything works great.

And for any naysayers blaming my WiFi, I am running a 5 gig Google Fiber connection so it’s not my ISP.

It's really silly, and unnecessary, that you need a firmware update to add features to the Music App. Spotify doesn't require an OS update to add features.

Since you mention it, decided to try Spotify again and now I see what especially YouTube music is trying to copy. The interface is almost identical except Spotify actually works and YTM as usual is full of bugs.

I had to uninstall Apple Music as it constantly tried to take over playback, and Siri always tries to play something from Apple Music instead of what I actually wanted.

And yes fully agree, long past time they moved all the apps fully to the App Store. I don’t know why they didn’t do that at the same time they started making core apps removable.

There is a Focus Filter for the Apple Music Listening History feature, so if you want to let someone else use your device to listen to music, you can activate this to turn off the Listening History so their song choices won't affect your recommendations.

This is a solid use case, but I'm way more excited about using this to filter out the ambient music I use to fall asleep. Not that I don't love Brian Eno, but listening to hours of his work at night is really throwing off my new music mix.

Hope they fix the game center notification bug - I don't use game center, I don't need a notification about it every single time I open a game center enabled game.

Wondering if iMessage sync via cloud will actually work, and fix whatever syncing bug led to deletion of photos not actually removing them from iCloud storage limits.

I'm rather convinced Apple is happy not to actually free up iCloud storage use when you delete photos so that you'll be like the user in the screenshot, who has 33GB of messages stored.

So suggestions are now working for me in the Journal app.

Something that is lacking in the beta is the ability to insert bullet points and more advanced formatting. Yes, you can bold and underline text if you select it and use the hover function but there is not a native formatting option like Apple notes.

Future wish list item would be to set up a recurring template. Then I could customise my entries to use x, y or z template in order to speed up entry unit the app.

Why is Spatial recording only limited to the iPhone 15?
It's because spatial recording needs the Main and UltraWide cameras to be side-by-side. On earlier cameras, those cameras were diagonally arranged, which would mean that you'd have to hold the iPhone diagonally if Apple were to support spatial recording on those. That's no bueno, and so it needs the side-by-side cameras on the iPhone 15 series.

The most likely reason is because the Apple Apps are fully integrated into the OS and therefore the OS has to be updated too.
