Ridiculous.
How about just fix the bugs in ios 17.1?
Also, is is really only possible to have the clock on top on the home screen, no other widget?
Nothing else can go there instead of the clock?
What if I don't want or need the clock.
More Apple knows best craziness.
the digital clock is actually great for standby but ok

What about Spatial Video recording for iPhone 15 pro? it's supposed to come "later this year", and if 17.2 is coming in December, is really time left for 17.3 this year?
They did a .3 release in December like 5 years ago. Very likely coming soon in 17.2 beta (hopefully Tuesday).

There’s currently an unused chip in the 15 pro / pro max that enables the feature.

iOS 17.2 is expected to be released to the public in December.

Well going by last two years you have beta 1 released, then its 2 weeks until you see beta 2 (coming next week), then another week until beta 3 , then because of the holidays you wait 2 weeks for beta 4, add another week for RC then to Public. So that places it likely coming out Monday Dec 11.

Is there an unused chip in the 15 pro line for that? what's your source that this feature isn't just software? Haven't read that anywhere!

Super annoying that the "speak" option doesn't seem to be available in messages anymore on a long press. Am I missing something?

I have iOS 17.2 (the latest beta), and I don't have to option for translation in the action button. Does any anyone has a similar problem?

Not remotely interested in any of these updates. Don’t journal (not starting), don’t ever use emojis or memojis, don‘t find a use for widgets, don’t have or want a contact card.

Useful updates would include a dedicated app to manage passwords, the ability for the stock app to have holdings and show pre/post market data, a more accurate weather app, and for Siri to understand what lights I want turned on.

Here’s to hoping there are some camera fixes. I shoot 4K video for my work and my 15 Pro is still getting very hot with very little shooting. I’m also seeing lots of hiccups in the video as I shoot that aren’t in the final video, but always makes me stop to check the footage to ensure it isn’t glitched. Then sometimes I get a black screen at the start of a video, etc. I’m also finding the indoor tone mapping a little drab / difficult to color correct after coming from an iPhone 13. Some midtones are pushed more toward the shadows but raising them raises the real shadows too much. I kinda miss the contrast in the midtones that made my old footage pop.

If only I could edit a mistyped number in the dial pad… just that from my 1000+ dollars “smartphone”. Just that…

How about supporting something as basic (but bloody useful) as predictive type on the iOS keyboard in more languages?

Actually, only very few languages are supported. It feels like Apple just forgot about people living outside the US on this one... Gboard has had it for many years...

The listening history focus mode is a long time coming, and just in time for Christmas. Nothing worse than having Christmas songs recommended into March.

Agree with this. Apple’s localization efforts are embarrassingly lacking.

Any word on WiFi improvements? Running the beta of 7.2 and WiFi still sucks. Pages randomly refuse to load unless I turn off WiFi or reboot the phone.

It would be nice if they expanded the favourite star to allow more granularity.., like perhaps something of a star, “rating” from 1-5? Not all songs fit into a binary like/dislike categorization.

Then it would be fantastic to be able to access that rating via CarPlay so a client user could, “rate” songs while on a road trip.

Apple made the first beta of iOS 17.2 available to developers and public beta testers last week, and the software update includes many new features and changes for iPhones. Below, we have highlighted 10 of these new features and changes.

Translate Option for Action Button

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are equipped with a customizable Action button that replaces the traditional mute switch on previous iPhones. By default, the button is set to toggle between Ring and Silent modes, but it can also be assigned to a different action for quick access to the camera, flashlight, Voice Memos, and more.

Starting with iOS 17.2, the Action button can now be assigned to the Translate app for quick access to language translation in the Dynamic Island.

New Widgets

When this filter is toggled on, the other person's song choices won't affect your recommendations.

iMessage: Contact Key Verification

Apple-advanced-security-iMessage-Contact-Key-Verification_screen-Feature.jpg

iMessage Contact Key Verification allow users who face "extraordinary digital threats," such as journalists, human rights activists, and government officials, to further verify that they are messaging only with the people they intend. In conversations between users who have enabled iMessage Contact Key Verification, users are alerted if a state-sponsored attacker or other malicious actor were ever to succeed breaching cloud servers and inserting their own device to eavesdrop on the conversation.

As an additional layer of security, iMessage Contact Key Verification users are able to compare a Contact Verification Code in person, on FaceTime, or through another secure call to further verify they are communicating only with whom they intend.

Apple previewed iMessage Contact Key Verification in December 2022, and it is finally launching as part of iOS 17.2.

Whole lot of nothing for me. Just a bunch of crap to chew up CPU cycles to try and get your to buy the next iPhone with yet another more powerful chip. The chips are already more powerful than the typical Apple user needs.
