Not onboard with your entire post, but I too tried removing the time as the first thing I did when I first customized a lock screen. The time is right over the face of anyone you try to make your background picture. I have a million ways to tell the time including and Apple Watch and Siri. Don’t need the time in my face all the….time.
I’d love to remove the time as well.
In fact, I don’t need anything on my Lock Screen, I just swipe up right away when waking any of my devices. And some of the widgets in iPad are so unfortunately scaled that you can’t read all the information anyway. Calendar and reminders in particular.

Especially considering that they want you to make multiple lock screens, even more than they want you to make multiple watch faces, they should offer more flexibility. I probably would keep one lock screen with the time on it and use it for a work focus, but for a personal focus seeing the time might stress me out more. This seems to be the kind of idea they are going for, surprised they are so stubborn about some elements.

And I think we are going to be stuck with non-removable flashlight and camera buttons forever.

the Clock app now offers a digital clock widget

Truly we live in an age of wonders. Hopefully this means they’ve discovered the advanced technology required to make a digital time corner complication for the Apple Watch.

Though now that I say this I realize I don’t care anymore since they basically nerfed watch faces in favor of the Siri stack anyway. I just leave it on the big digital time watch face and have all my complications in the stack.

And while I’m on the subject, I wish it were possible to have an analog watch face, but not have it analog on the Siri stack. I like that the time is always there, but whether it is digital or analog is tied to the watch face. I would like the option to have it always digital.

Wake me up when these new & existing features work properly. Should give me plenty of time for a long Winter's nap.

While the Meteorological Start of winter is Dec 1, the more traditional Astronomical Start is Dec 21. Not that much time to hybernate until its release likely Dec 11. (using past 2 years of iOS beta x.2 schedule). ;)

Seems like a stretch to call some of these things “features” when they’re really more like minor refinements.

Gotta agree with others: iOS needs a comprehensive bug sweep, not the addition of more “features.”

Administrative tools to remove (or install) iOS/macos bloatware components would be more welcome in my opinion than any bells and whistles....

Emoji customization, wow, this is a much bigger upgrade then what they say.

Journal, ah well I have DayOne - if it can replace it I can save some, but highly doubt it.
But if it can replace notes in what I use it for, it would be good enough.

complete redesign from the ground up please. If you won't do that, at least give us full control in shortcuts like Tasker.

Ridiculous.
How about just fix the bugs in ios 17.1?
Also, is is really only possible to have the clock on top on the home screen, no other widget?
Nothing else can go there instead of the clock?
What if I don't want or need the clock.
More Apple knows best craziness.
Are you talking about the clock that has been there for decades?

I’m not sure a complete revamp of the interface is called for but a serious sweep for bugs (some of which have been around for nearly a decade now without any attention from Apple) is what it needs. Then they can futz around with the GUI. First it needs to actually work correctly.

Apple made the first beta of iOS 17.2 available to developers and public beta testers last week, and the software update includes many new features and changes for iPhones. Below, we have highlighted 10 of these new features and changes.

iOS 17.2 is expected to be released to the public in December. Once available, the update can be installed in the Settings app under General → Software Update.

Journal App

Apple's new Journal app allows iPhone users to reflect on their day and memories, complete with text, photos, music, audio recordings, and more. The app provides personalized suggestions based on recent on-device activity.

Translate Option for Action Button

iPhone-15-Pro-Action-Button-Translate.jpg

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are equipped with a customizable Action button that replaces the traditional mute switch on previous iPhones. By default, the button is set to toggle between Ring and Silent modes, but it can also be assigned to a different action for quick access to the camera, flashlight, Voice Memos, and more.

Starting with iOS 17.2, the Action button can now be assigned to the Translate app for quick access to language translation in the Dynamic Island.

New Widgets

There are new Home Screen and Lock Screen widget options for the Weather and Clock apps on iOS 17.2. The new Weather options include, Daily Forecast, and Sunrise and Sunset, while the Clock app now offers a digital clock widget.

Apple Music: Collaborative Playlists

apple-music-collaborative-playlist.jpg

A new Collaborative Playlists feature for Apple Music allows multiple people to add, reorder, and remove songs in a shared playlist.

Apple Music: Favorite Songs Playlist

In the Music app on iOS 17.1 and later, you can favorite songs by tapping the star icon to receive improved recommendations.

Starting with iOS 17.2, favorited songs are also added to a new Favorite Songs playlist.

Apple Music: Listening History Focus Filter

Tired of your kids or someone else messing up your Apple Music recommendations while they are borrowing your iPhone to listen to music? iOS 17.2 includes a new Focus filter for Apple Music‌ listening history that addresses this problem. When this filter is toggled on, the other person's song choices won't affect your recommendations.

iMessage: Contact Key Verification

Apple-advanced-security-iMessage-Contact-Key-Verification_screen-Feature.jpg

iMessage Contact Key Verification allow users who face "extraordinary digital threats," such as journalists, human rights activists, and government officials, to further verify that they are messaging only with the people they intend. In conversations between users who have enabled iMessage Contact Key Verification, users are alerted if a state-sponsored attacker or other malicious actor were ever to succeed breaching cloud servers and inserting their own device to eavesdrop on the conversation.

As an additional layer of security, iMessage Contact Key Verification users are able to compare a Contact Verification Code in person, on FaceTime, or through another secure call to further verify they are communicating only with whom they intend.

Apple previewed iMessage Contact Key Verification in December 2022, and it is finally launching as part of iOS 17.2.

iMessage: Sticker Reactions via Tapback Menu

iOS 17.2 allows you to more quickly react to a message with any sticker by tapping "Add Sticker" in the Tapback menu in the Messages app.

Memoji: New Customization Options

I hope for a new Lock Screen widget for Home that offers a small widget for Security just like that's available for Security Status. Taking up two spaces on an iPhone Lock Screen just to arm and disarm seem to be a waste of space since only four are available.

Does anyone else think the blur effect on the contact posters is the worst design elements Apple came up in years ? It works only on very few select photos. Anything else and it's a big blurry mush that ruins any normal picture, illustration or whatever. And you can't design disable it.

Adding Rainbow Text on top of this already vomit inducing effect is the cherry on the cake.
Who though this was a good idea ?

Can someone tell me how to get back to the list of titles from my playlist when I start playing a song? All the new features I see are yet another way to mess up the interface by adding a layer of complexity, not improving it.

Journal
If the smart suggestions are as smart as the memories video Photos is doing, I'm in for a very memorable journal that's for sure. How come does a collection of touching photos from my Christmas trip to Stockholm end up with pictures of goats I took in the Alps years ago, and all that with a goofy music ?

Great, new way to tell me it's currently sunny with a 0% chance of rain while I'm being soaked right down to my underwear. Maybe weather works in the US, but in Europe it doesn't, it actually terrible.

I may be wrong or just not aware of how to do things correctly (which is a problem in itself for a company touting the ease of use of their products), but instead of adding more features I think they should take some time to really reflect on their product's usability.

All these new features are well marketed, but nobody outside the tech bubble is using them. In my family and friends, no one uses focus modes and they don't even know it's there. It's the same for most of the new features, wether on Mac or iOS, watchOS... My asked me yesterday how to remove that horrible yellow icon (talkie walkie) from her watch's control center because she didn't know what it did and was afraid it would mess up something again.

Most of the tech today is people coping with whatever new stupid idea some dude in a valley faraway decided to implement to ruin their already painful day. It's so counter productive.

Any word on WiFi improvements? Running the beta of 7.2 and WiFi still sucks. Pages randomly refuse to load unless I turn off WiFi or reboot the phone.
Just a data point - I’ve never had that happen in 17. I wonder what the difference might be?

The simple truth is that all ‘smartphones’ maxed out on what the ‘average’ person uses them for years ago. The only thing they have to sell are new ‘power features’ that few people use. Yes I use focuses, I write shortcuts, and I do have specific pages of apps that show up only in certain focuses, etc. I’ve found family members who have only taken live pictures with their phones because it came with that turned on by default and they had no idea if or even why they might want to turn it off.
