The amount of people who can't see the obvious sarcasm of your post is the real disaster.A web app that takes over the screen is definitely a recipe for disaster.

So all the extensions that are active for a profile, are active for that PWA? Or just the extensions that were enabled when you created the PWA? Or maybe each PWA has its own extension configuration in settings?Content blockers run fine for me in all PWAs.
Impractical and not the case anywhere imo. The domain blocking is usually enforced by the ISP.You know how your ad blocker app has a list of sites or URLs that it blocks, I’m wondering if the EU iOS version of Safari will start blocking sites that are not approved by the EU, is that why they’re removing this feature?![]()
Microsoft tried to offer their browser for some functions in Windows and got nailed for it. This is just Apple taking the other approach. In the end, people aren't fully happy with either.I’m not sure this is one of those cases, but there will definitely be cookie pop up spam-like issues somewhere within this legislation. Utter Chromium web dominance will probably be one.
Yeah, it's an iOS feature implemented by a custom browser based on WebKit. Apple can't use their own browsers and have to defer to a user installed browser? They're going to have to function like bookmarklets.I mean, I thought making PWA from webpages was an iOS 17 feature, maybe I mistook it for Sonoma, where this feature was implemented for the first time?
It's not all about revenue and finances.Apples revenue and finances disagrees with the above.
People can make this about whatever they want. This is not about humanity or who has or who doesn't have. This is about some philosophical arguments about what Apple has created and who does it belong to and where is it going. It's not all about revenue and finances.
Humanity arguably goes downhill too (Russian expansion, Izrael X Palestine conflict, Iran, North Korea and Russian serious threats of nuclear conflict, global warming...).
Yet humanity is the most developed and most wealthy - but still going downhill in some aspects. Keep this in mind when judging whether Apple is going uphill or downhill. There are multiple aspects you can judge Apple by. Revenue and finances are just one of them.
I generally don't bother with generic, low-effort replies that seem like they could be copied-and-pasted to any thread, and I suggest you don't either.Apples revenue and finances disagrees with the above.
Of course it's philosophical when it's not about hard numbers.People can make this about whatever they want. This is not about humanity or who has or who doesn't have. This is about some philosophical arguments about what Apple has created and who does it belong to and where is it going.
Of course, Apple is a parable about the three blind men and the elephant. People make it what they want.
If your website is explicitly designed as a PWA, then it probably should work in 17.4 Safari, even in the EU, but I guess we will just have to wait and see. There's maybe still a month to go?I'm appalled by this. Surely Apple could for the moment limit PWAs to using Safari (in PWA mode)?
We've just finished developing a PWA. It's the only way a small developer can keep an app alive these days. All the requirements of App store and Play store are putting far too much overhead on small developers. Not to mention the required updates to meet latest APK/API version requirements (many of these continuously introduce breaking changes in frameworks)![]()
Don’t install third party marketplaces, I guess 🤷🏻♂️Hi All,
I'm not happy with all the changes Apple is introducing with IOS 17.4 for people living in the EU. These changes are a thread to user experience.
Do you know if it is some kind op opt-in when you live in the EU or when you live in the EU you get these new regulations forced onto your device?
Is there a way from user perspective you can setup your device so you avoid the EU regulations?
Thanks!
Is this beta 2 topic still relevant with todays beta 3?Apple has seemingly restricted the functionality of Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) in the latest beta of iOS 17.4, specifically targeting users within the European Union. The move appears to undermine the role of PWAs as viable alternatives to native apps in iOS.
That is indeed one way, but still the functionality around PWA gets fully disabled in the EU if I understand it correctly. Imho this is not the right move from the EU. That's why I would like to have a way around the new regulations.Don’t install third party marketplaces, I guess 🤷🏻♂️
And if you don’t want third party browsers with different engines, just keep using Safari.

It's not like the EU explicitly forbade Apple from keeping PWA functionality, Apple did this to themselves and now we're paying the priceThat is indeed one way, but still the functionality around PWA gets fully disabled in the EU if I understand it correctly.
