I doubt there ever will be. Why build a whole new app and jump through apples weird hoops just for the EU. US needs to wake up and also implement some laws so Apple is forced to implement those changes there as well
Plenty of opportunities: Setapp is already finalising their own EU App Store. And it’s likely more countries will follow in the footsteps of the EU.

Seems almost Irelevant for non-EU users.
I just wanted the stop watch as a live activity. And a smarted dial pad. And a better text editing mode, more like in Huawei phones. IOS correction method is pretty rudimentary.

It seems that Apple deleted the News widget, in many countries (European at least).
I think it's very sad. I thought it was a bug in the Developer versions, but it seems to be definitive.

Honestly it didn’t make much sense to maintain a widget for an app that doesn’t exist. It was probably a placeholder to eventually release the service in more countries but they most likely abandoned those plans.

Lately our small groups have exceeded the 20 members text message limitation on android phones so we have moved to telegram which allows much more.
On the android platform you’re allowed to download from other sources including the developer so users do not need to have a Google play account to install their app.
For our iOS users they have to download it directly from the App Store some of those users do not have an Apple account so they’re not able to participate.
This will be a useful feature as soon as it comes to the states for these types of users that don’t have App Store accounts.
An Apple ID is free to make, free to use. You just need a valid email address. You also do NOT need a credit card. Should an app cost something, you can add a iTunes/Apple Everything gift card, and load it with $5 (for example)

I'm sorry, but this makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. All you need to make an Apple ID account is your personal e-mail. You don't need an Apple e-mail to have an Apple ID to download and install apps. It's free to create one and free to use. They need to learn how to use their phones. Telegram works on literally every platform and there's no reason for anyone not being able to participate. Your point is invalid because of this simple misunderstanding. How are your "iOS" users on an iPhone with no Apple account? That makes their iPhone a rectangle that can make phone calls and not much else. That is the silliest thing I've ever heard.

The new repair state option is a nice addition. Still waiting for News+ to be available in more regions.

Anyone able to find quartiles? I'm in the UK, phone updated to iOS17.5 got the new+ subscription through premier but still cannot find it in the following section, there's no puzzles.

Feel like this update could have been a 17.4.X update. Granted this is probably the last major 17.X update for iOS 17.

Pretty sure the EU compliance thing is a big update... for those it affects. Actually does that cover the UK? No that I care. I am not installing anything from a random website :)

Why not use google messages app that is built on RCS standard ?
serious question.
I would assume that people that have an iPhone without an Apple account, won't want to use Google Messages on that iPhone, especially since the RCS used by Google is using Google proprietary extensions that run messages through Google's servers.

I do not understand the implementation of "Repair State" at all. Let me see if I got this right:
  1. Must go to find Remove Device in Find My
  2. It then will error out with "Cannot remove device"?
  3. It will then offer to put the device into a Repair State
What is the point of all this? Why not - you know... create a link called "Prepare for repair" (or similar) and not go through this weird "try to remove, fail to remove and then offer repair state"?

Dear Lord this is a boring update. I suppose they've transitioned all the big stuff to iOS 18 at this point and iOS 17 will just get the most minor of "fixes and improvements".
Oh, I dunno, I found the black screen issue when I woke up this morning pretty exciting ..... "how am I going to pay for the car park?"...... "how am I going to pay for gas/petrol?".....

Weirdly, the AirPlay shortcut to play BBC Sounds to the bedroom HomePod worked as did maps in the car driving into work.

All that before it even updated.

Thankfully en route to work my wife found this article and provided tech support....if your iPhone won't turn on or is frozen.

No problem here 🤷🏼‍♂️
OK it's like good ol' Windows. I just rebooted and it worked.
I don't really understand because installing 17.5 obviously rebooted my phone already.

With respect to the cross-tracking, will a thief with an iPhone be notified there is a tracker moving with them? If so, they could look for the tracker secreted in the item they stole, find it and remove it making the trail go cold.
Yes, Apple has slowly, but surely, made AirTags all but useless. Out of pure paranoia.

It'll be interesting to see how things go in the malware department now that Apple has opened up to third party app stores, fingers crossed it'll be the same as downloading a third party app for the Mac.
I hope they handle it in a much better way than Android did and we don't have to run antivirus on iDevices.
Who told you you need antivirus on android? This is completely false.

'Just' the EU. 27 countries and 100's of millions of people. Good one.
