One thing I’ve always hated about AM… you’re on a route and realize you need to go somewhere after your set destination and want to know how long it’ll add to whole route… add stop only allows something to be added before your currently input stop, not after. So you have to cancel current route, recreate it, and add the other stops you want. Wish they allowed rearranging stops while in middle of a current route.
I think you can drag each item up or down? It's not the most intuitive process, and not at all safe to do while driving.

What I really wish for is a "pause route" button. Sometimes you just want to stop really quick for food or gas or something, and Maps will just go insane trying to get you back onto the route.

Anyone else switch to Apple Maps the day it came out and never look back?
Yes, unlike Google Apple Maps gets our road colours correct. This may not be a big deal in the US but being able to zoom out and instantly recognise our motorways and therefore plan a rough journey is invaluable.

I'm wondering if I when searching in the Maps.app will be possible to start typing a name of a street or place and then when the suggestions comes up, tap one of them and then be able to add for example the street number. As it is now (in iOS 16) there doesn't seem to be a way to do this, but instead I have to type the entire thing before executing the search.

Not a very nice user experiene in my opinion.

I really need that live traffic data, especially since every road in Michigan is currently under construction (YES, she's fixing the dam roads!) but I also prefer the the satellite view as it affords me more information about the terrain, very helpful when discerning likely deer-crash probabilities. I keep my CarPlay on Google Maps full-time for these reasons. and I love having this option. Just amazing on my 2020 Outback screen.

I have modest navigational needs - often use it on an 'in case' basis so if there is an issue, it can redirect. And am at least generally familiar with the area I drive in. Therefore, I rarely positively look at the screen. But yesterday, I saw a red oblong 'STOP' symbol that I'd never previously noticed.

i was driving along the blue road, and the sign was where that joined the grey road. And absolutely correct - on the ground I had to not just give way, but actually stop.

It's clear that this is a situation in which it would be easy to misread the junction and possibly think you had right of way.

You have to admit. Apple Maps have come a long way. The details are astonishing! Just mind-blown.

And yet what was originally for a few years never an issue, has become an issue.
Since iOS 14.x when you have a search history in Maps spanning across 2mths and you wish to clear ALL ...
you can start deleting 1 at a time in the short 10 list and before clearing all of them readily listed (doesn't matter how much) clicck on the Clear button above the list. and tap into to see more and there is more ... some will NOT swipe delete without having to clear them using the CLEAR button again.

This (#17) for me. Accuracy trumps "prettier" in my opinion. I like to get where I'm trying to go. When I occasionally re-try AM, it is quite a bit "prettier" but can still let me down in terms of getting me to the target location. GM can do that too but seemingly far less frequently. When I really need to get to the right place, I just go with the one most likely to get it right.

I continue to wish that someone would write a mapping app that lets you punch in the address and it plots where Apple thinks it is, Google, Waze, etc. If they all mark the same spot, we will probably get to the right spot. If a cluster says one place and a sole outlier says somewhere else, user could choose either (but would probably go with the cluster).

OR, I wish Apple would write an internal algorithm that does the same trick to update their own data instead of continuing to have issues. If the corp ego is such that their outlier expectation is internally believed to be correct vs. the cluster location, alert the user to the discrepancy and let the user decide if they want to try Apple's X (marks the spot) or the clusters. Also solicit the user to confirm which one is right when they get there (to crowdsource clean up wrong guesses.) Doing this, it shouldn't take long for Apple's data to be as good as anyone elses.

But what do I know.

I'd certainly love Apple's "pretty" with Google's accuracy.
WAZE then has to be your choice. And WAZE even works if you’re on a train (nowhere near a road/highway) also works great if you’re on a ferry at least in terms of keeping you up to date on location and speed. It’s options panel to report/photo road items (cops, wrecks) graded scale of traffic) is very good. Best option (IMHO) is having Maps, Google Maps, and WAZE on your mobile.

Many years ago, I used Waze for a while and, at the time, it was quite good. Ended up using Here We Go for quite a while (largely because it worked on Android, Apple and Windows phones) but now use Apple exclusively.

However, in the spirit on investigation, I just tried Waze for where I live and know well. And, while marginally better than Google Maps, it is pretty poor. Roads poorly represented. Roads missing. Typos in road names. Image below compares same area between Waze and Apple.

Obviously, static map viewing isn't the same as navigating. But without good maps, everything else tends to be less usable.

I have had more replies from Apple acknowledging issues and saying they have been corrected than I have from Google - who have acknowledged my reports but don't update the maps!

Further, Apple's detection of traffic issue has improved a lot. I very often see slow traffic, etc., properly reported.

(I am well aware that my location might represent the very best mapped area under Apple and the worst under Google/Waze. Variations do occur. This is my personal experience.)

In Singapore, after upgrading to iOS17, Apple Map no longer shows lane guidance directions. These were working fine on v16.x

It’s great they addes offline maps. However I’m a bit confused about when they are actually used. If I save my hometown as offline map does that mean that the offline map is always used as long as I’m in that region regardless of having internet connection or not?

I know I can turn the setting ”always use offline” on, but then I would have to turn that setting of when leaving the offline area.

It uses the offline maps when it cannot use online maps! Where I tested this basically had a an almost non-existent connection - I could see it was connected but it was so bad absolutely nothing was actually working (e.g. mail or a web page).

I suspect it must assess the connection and, if it is below a threshold, use offline maps. Or, of course, if you switch off mobile and wifi!

It switched back to online maps as when it was adequately connected - but I didn't notice it happening as I was driving. I suspect even intermittent connection will often be sufficient.
