Notes app are very useful to me, although I have Day One too, but they are used in a very different way and for different things. Some notes I have though in more places than one.

Reminder seems to be worth a new check-up now.
I have used the free version of Buy me a Pie for groceries, but with a lot of lists that I still can use, though it asks me for subscription a bit too often. See if reminder can replace that now, would be great.

Great Apple 👍🏼

Probably my most-used Apple app except Safari, and maybe my favorite. I use it all day for just about everything, and it syncs reliably between devices.

OOOOOH! Im a fan of linking Notes.

I have a bunch of notes that are very long lists so I break then up monthly.

Being able to link them all in a chain will be very nice.
Why not simply just create or edit existing notes?

Linking is odd to me becuase it may just break compatibility when exporting to another platform or app entirely. Not a fan of the LOCK in like Apple does with Passwords in Settings already.

Other irmprovements are nice though.

Reminders - since it's overhaul I've yet to actually use it at all - it's no longer as invitin gfor ease of use nor simplistic understanding of how it works. I may revisit.

One improvement I'd LIKE to see in iOS (or 2):
1 - ablity to play native applications (Audio and Video) in the background while being able to use iOS Translate application.
2 - bring Translate into an API invoked from the Shorctut shade slide down window like Shazam can listing inteh background. I want translate and other iOS 1st apps to have this at the users' discretion.

^ bring me this and I'd be back already. Or maybe still could come back .. Tueday may be the return of the S23 experiment I don't know yet.

Bonus:
Bring us desktop like mode with more keyboard and mouse functionality similar to the iPad Pro has. I shouldn't have to rotate the physical iPhone to get landscape mode when connecting to Apple TV! Furthermore get rid of AppleTV as the sole source of projecting to a TV its 2023 and this walled part of the garden is like weeds! Most of the hotels that used to have AppleTV's outside ofthe USA no longer do. Nobody shoudl have to go into accessibility to enable basic mouse and keyboard functionality ESPECIALLY with Apple's Own Keyboards (like showing a mouse pointer for the Magic Mouse/TrackPad 2 attrocious).

Apple once said there are millions of users that just got their first smartphone chose Appl eand that do NOT even have a computer! Time the iPhone stops being restricted as a Phone and becomes more smart in its functionality and features to everyone.

When I'm tracking macros; what I ate, calories, fat, carbs, protein and fiber, those lists get annoying long by the end of the month.

I create a new tracking note every month. When I want to go back and look at a previous month, not having to scroll through other notes if I want to go back 6-8 months will be nice.

WHy not use a deciated nutrition application or workout application that does this?

MyFitnessPro not only tracks your macros and micro's but also the source of the food as well as portions too. Much more accurate and directly input into Apple Health if you u choose to use that. Unless you don't use Apple Health or just wnant fine control over your health information or thinkign about migrating to Android in the future and need that data (I'm not sure if Apple Health data gets exported soemthing I REALLY need to check to be honest right now).

I can check it out.

But, I just don't want to add another app into the mix. I don't want to deal with another app trying to sell me something, paying a monthly fee, or them possibly selling more of my data *even if they say they aren't).

Notes is very simple. I just though the ability to have them linked would be cool and easy for going back and finding specific meals/days when I wanted to or needed to.

If you add a reminder with a specific date, you can opt to receive an early reminder to get a warning ahead of time. You can get a notification 1 day before, 2 days before, 1 week before
Calendar and Reminders are starting to blur a lot for me… I mostly use calendars for Birthdays and holidays dates I think, mostly.
Reminders with date/time/geofencing and now early poke would do a lot of it and probably better as it’s “checkable” and “delay-able”, easy to arrange, one of the things Siri gets without too much complication, etc

Notes is great for doodling and doing sketches also

Loving this, what is this for? An Ad? 3D something?
I respect the skill of being able to draw, either from a doodle that makes sense to a fully finished 2D piece. (reason: it’s my pet peeve, the skill that I never learn)

I use Siri to add things to my Grocery list about every day either using the Watch or HomePod.
When I empty a box or jar it’s so easy just to update my list at that moment rather than making a list from scratch before I leave the house.
I can't get automatic sorting of grocery lists in Reminders to work, even after resetting categories in settings (iOS 17 RC). Anyone have a similar problem?

Hi guys, just upgraded to ios17.

I found the items were not auto categorised. Any idea? I am outside US. The list type is set to shopping.

Attached the screenshot.

Linking to other notes is useful for adding info which is being covered in other notes.

It is wiser to keep common info in one place as duplicate info in diff locations is difficult to maintain.

That makes absolutely NO sense!

Why would you duplicate info at all in the first place?!

One note has said info.
Another has another.
Simple.

If related then I can see linking - like a KB for troubleshooting steps yes that makes sense. But if both have the same info then your notes structure is consuming unnecessary data (regardless of the free space available)
^ think of a database: you don’t place an employees age twice - else you’ll have issues later on or your data is corrupt.

You are right if you write everything in one note at one time.

However, there are cases that I jotted down or captured some info/web links in earlier days, then now I write something with additional references info that I captured in another note hence I rather refer it via inter note links than repeating the info here.

Say, I try to plan a trip for summer holidays. I captured some of the web links to rail info in one note and some other tourist attractions in another note. Now, the plan in the note could include my draft itinerary with links to the other notes.

During the trip, I could capture my expense in one note, and write my journey diary in another ones. So, the full journal is a notes with short text and links to other notes.

Ahhh! I get you now.

Very helpful if during the rail trip has stops for monuments, restaurant recommendations to stop at & enjoy, or emergency points if interests such as embassy or passport offices. ;) take pictures along the way for a journal type of notes right?

I just didn’t understand to duplicate info across notes simply on its own for record keeping - yet the link may do that but it’s relevant to linking notes (such as a entire rail trip being duplicated yet relevant when linked as both our scenarios).

Thanks this makes much more sense now. I appreciate for the lesson and expanding my perception positively.

Cheers!

i might have misused the word "duplicate" at the first place. rather, there would be info that could be "reused" in one and another notes. repeating the same info in every relevant notes is not a good idea.

Found an interesting “bug” in the new grocery typed list.:p

Wish apple could make the auto sorting more wiser.

Also, extend the auto sorting to support other languages, e.g. traditional Chinese!

The Reminders updates brought me back to Reminders after years on Things. Very happy with the integration across devices including Watch, and the new utilities. Feels like a nice step up from Things. Some complain about buried menus but the interface seems to work for me. Except I wish checklists were easier to initiate and maintain on both Mac and iOS. I don’t feel the need to integrate with Calendar as others do. Very happy with the switch, worth the several hours to manually transfer from Things.
