One can go overboard. If I were to actually treat all clothing exactly as spec’d out on the many laundry tags, I’d likely have 30 washer/dryer and several dry cleaning loads a week. Life’s far too short. Instead, I‘ve taken a much simpler approach. I have five categories: whites, lights, darks, dry clean, and dog stuff. And the only difference between lights and darks is that they’re not loaded together but still use the same washer cycle. The dog stuff is comprised of sheets, towels, bedding covers, etc. used by the pooch and washed in a steam-added sanitary/allergen cycle. Delicates that could be washed at home using extraordinary means like special gentle detergents, cold wash, blocking to air dry, etc., all get dumped into the dry clean batch to let the pros deal with all that.

I get that this is all about making clothes last as long as possible in as best condition as possible, but even my OCD-ness has limits.

Omg. I've been in Europe for the past few months and still have no clue what all the symbols mean on the washer/dryer. I just always press start and pray for the best. If my iPhone would just tell me what to do I'd be much happier. Lol. e01-4 (the last error message I saw when starting a washer).
Best thing would be if you could scan the symbol and tap something, and the iPhone was linked to the laundry machines and would make them do what is appropriate for the symbol

The system is still wasting cycles and storage for something that's unwanted.
Lol. I’m sorry that it wasted .00000000000001 percent of your iPhone’s CPU and battery usage. We’ll hold a funeral for that tiny loss of energy haha

There's no hope for them. This feature is clearly driven by American stupidity.
Yes, it’s clearly our fault that overseas manufacturers put crazy symbols on products and expect us to know the meaning. I suppose you memorize every symbol because you are an enlightened European correct? Because Europe is known for enlightened behavior lol.

For the love of god... How hard is it to learn a new thing that is globally applicable?

It's a symbol. AN ICON that describes a specific meaning that transcends languages...

When will this curiosity shaming, glorification of staying ignorant end?
