Imagine if there was some form of universally accessible repository of knowledge where you could find out what those symbols mean, I dunno... search for 'laundry symbols' maybe, and you'd then get an explanation of them...
The problem comes when we expect the hopelessly inadequate hooman brane to remember what 3 or 4 common ones mean... you can't expect ordinary people to retain that amount of information! I mean... circles and squares and dots - it's all too much!

Much simpler to somehow get hold of a $1,000+ device, learn how to operate that, find an application to translate those baffling symbols, download and install it, learn how to use it, and the camera, take a picture of the laundry label, have the App decipher them for you and then read what it says, and then ignore it and either just throw the clothes into the machine and set it to whatever or get someone else to do it for you.

"Not everyone understands English so we will invent a new language using symbols that nobody will intuitively understand" sounds about right
lol

It's SYMBOLS. You learn their meaning and your memory can process that, whereever you go.

You rent a car in Japan and want to turn on the hazard lights?

You want to find the toilet in a mall in Greece?

What exactly is super hard in learning a shape and attach a function to it in your mind?

Over the course of my tenure in the textiles industry, I have witnessed a tremendous evolution in the approach to garment care. It can be challenging to keep pace with these advancements and remain knowledgeable about the most effective ways to maintain your clothing. However, it is imperative to remain current with the latest developments and best practices to ensure your garments endure for as long as possible.

Jeeeez, it's just an added convenience. It's like having a bottle-cap opener in the dash of my car. It's not why I bought the car but it's a nice convenience that it's there.

How about the first time you see it and you don't have a manual? Again, it's just an added convenience.

Great idea BUT...I expect other manufacturers and marketers to now start shrinking all necessary product info into little icons, only decipherable to a code book or an iPhone. While this is fine for us, what about the people who can't afford an iPhone?

Google search? Library? A book?
Elon Musk, while going off the deep end crazy in the past few years, has gotten one thing right in his manufacturing plants. No shorted words allowed. This leaves behind any ambiguity of meaning. This is the only problem with iconizing labels. Though, in the case of laundry tags on clothes, I agree that space is paramount. Though it can be difficult to find the meaning of an icon in a Google search, library, or a book.
