I often discuss two medicines: levothyroxine and liothyronine.

The first is in the standard dictionary. The second I added.

If I type them correctly, no problem. But almost any mistake I make in typing liothyronine sees it replaced by levothyroxine.

IOS and macOS. And very annoying.

Is this going to fix it?
Add 2 text replacements as following for example:
- ltx for levothyroxine
- lty for levothyronine
Not only it solves your issue, also saves you much time!
Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacements

Me: oh god the keyboard on iOS 16 is awful
iOS 17: hold my beer

17’s keyboard is, in a nutshell, HOT garbage! The sentence auto complete is just ripping my brain and unfortunately there’s no way to disable it without losing the word prediction bar entirely AFAIK

I think special characters are pretty unimportant in English (except a few foreign words). But in Welsh, they can be very important. (A learner so this might not be a good example.) Tân is "fire": Tan is "until". Probably easy to guess which is meant in that example but there are others that are not so easy. Do you not have such issues in your language?
It happens but the context says a lot. And if both options could make sense we usually single out the "problematic" letter and say: (the letter) like a (a word that starts with the correct one). If that makes sense

Will believe it when I see it, but I’m actually very excited about this long overdue improvement. It used to be fine but got worse at some point.

Windows Phone did this as well. The keyboard was ducking prescient and then one day it was not. Yes I was that one guy with Windows Phone you heard about 😜

Settings > General > Keyboards > Enable Dictation
It's already off. The button is there no matter what the option is set to - only it brings up a pointless dialog box when you hit the stupid thing:

I'm guessing they REALLY want to encourage you to help train their language model.

Not the only one, I was using the Pocket PC before the Windows phone.

Did you try to enable it and then disable it again (and possibly restart the iPhone)? That works for some people.

But I don't want to type levothyronine!

And I'd be happier at setting up text replacements if I only had to do it once and it would apply across all my IOS, iPadOS, and macOS. (I don't think it does but will check it out in a minute.)

Checked it out. It does copy across!

If this works as intended this is fantastic and a great example of why I switched from Android to iOS.

Google has arguably the best machine learning experience for something like this and could have EASILY applied it to improve their own keyboard prediction ages ago. But their focus is always in the tech THEY are interested in (voice to text) instead of what MOST PEOPLE USE (the regular keyboard).

Google has better speech to text by a mile but most people would still benefit more from a better traditional keyboard. Thank you Apple for putting your users before your own tech experiments.

This! It. Is. So. Much. Worse.

Obviously you can set up a short three-letter text replacement for the other one as well. Which saves you from having to type either long word.

ltx for levothyroxine
lty for liothyronine

…per example.

I was laughing at the fact that levothyronine is a good example of the sort of typo many make! That and liothyroxine.

The current "autocorrect" is crowd-sourced and ducking annoying, it comes up with street language and other mis-spellings I would never use, ducking had it! LOL With AI now, modern processing power, iOS should be capable of learning your habits and literally tuning itself to you, the end user... starting with ducking autocorrect! LOL

Why is it every time apple or any Oem for that matter releases something, there’s always that guy who just HAS to tell you how they don’t use said feature.

That’s cool. I’m sure for the millions of others this will be great addition.

I’m sorry I hurt you by posting that. God forbid people should comment on the things that Apple does and let their feelings be known. Let’s all be silent and Apple can then assume that everyone uses every aspect of iOS/OS the exact way Apple designed them.

lol far from hurt. I just don’t spend my time complaining about features that iOS has that I don’t use lol. I personally couldn’t care less about apple health. I’m not going to complain about it being updated for those who do care. God forbid every feature not being for you. *clutches pearls*
