I don't think I've seen it mentioned – is there a time limit for FaceTime video voicemails? Can you record a 20 minute video? Longer? Has anyone tested this?

Want to see a lot more “small and useful” like the voicemail link in recents, than “big and useless” like contact posters. Completely unnecessary rewrite of something that already existed. Spend time on things like that when all the basics are nailed.

I'm a simple man with simple needs, having the capability to receive suggestions based on my past calls when initiating the process of composing a number would suffice for me :) been waiting for years now

No FaceTime option in my Apple TV HD. Is it not supported on this device? Yes, I am running TVOS 17 beta and ios17 beta.

I hope we can turn off Contact Posters.

I want the ability to choose what I see pop up on my phone when someone calls, not the person calling me.

Imagine assigning a bad pic of your ex to her contact and then she calls and it’s a ****ing glam shot. No thanks
I’m sure the photo card changes you made to the contact will override.
Otherwise this is clearly an oversight by Apple.

So if you make a phone call, Apple gets involved with transferring the photo? That is concerning. A phone call should only involve my carrier and not any Apple servers.

And why should I show my face to strangers just because I call them? As that probably only works with iPhones, the photo gives the other person the information that you own an iPhone. That's none of his business.
Strangers won’t be able to see your contact photo/name automatically. Only your contacts.

You can only share your contact photo/name with a stranger - once YOU change the setting for that particular stranger to allow.

So that works for each stranger individually? I thought it would be either contacts or everyone you call, because if somebody is not in your contact list, there is no place to set preferences for him. Or do you have to decide that spontaneously before the call?

Looks like I misread. By default, all strangers that call you or you call won’t be able to see your contact poster and you could be prompted to share it with them. If you want to share, you need to save them as a contact.

You can also turn on/off your contact photo/name for an individual contact. So if you don’t want your ex to see your stuff you can turn it off for him/her.

I don‘t get why people complain about contact poster privacy. It‘s the same as iMessage profiles, you set it up if you want one and you also get to pick how it‘s transferred (for all contacts or manually for contacts you want to share it with).

If you don‘t want your friend to pick a contact poster for them, you can manually overwrite theirs in your contact list at any time, just like iMessage profiles work.

So it is only about FaceTime calls? I thought it would happen on a regular phone call, if the other person also owns an iPhone.

I may have misunderstood your comment. Contact Posters are controlled by the individual:

Contact Posters can be shared with your contacts automatically, or you can be prompted to share with anyone who calls you so no one sees your custom imagery without your permission.

Ideally you can share on an individual basis; however if that does not seem to be the way iMessage sharing works and thus we may not see that the phone version:
  1. Click the Share Automatically pop-up menu, then choose one of the following:
    • Contacts Only: Your name and photo are shared in conversations with your contacts automatically.
    • Always Ask: Messages prompts you for each conversation, verifying that you want to share your name and photo.
Is there a way to limit it to select contacts in iMessage?

What accessory is available for the FaceTime on TV feature? Is there a MagSafe stand that helps you quickly get the phone in the right position without falling over?

Not clear for me the Posters function: will people see my poster when they call me? Or will they see my poster when I call them?.
Will it need some sort of carrier support?.

Will the phone app be able to edit a mistyped number?. That is a real need!.

Well since we talk about phone app I face a problem since ages. When I hang up a call by pressing the red button I accidentally push another contact in my recents call list. And now with the 5G networks the call is direct, it rings immediately. So to avoid this I do the call via spotlight search, so when I hang up not to see the recents in phone app.
Any suggestions? A solution would be not to show the phone app after.
So is there any change in iOS 17?
With the re arrangement of buttons during call maybe?

How do contact posters differ from how it works now? A text contact shared her profile name/pic with me, and when she calls her picture appear on the call screen.

Right now you decide what your contact looks like on your phone, by setting up their contact details. A Contact Poster is controlled entirely by the sender, assuming they have an iPhone.

Edit - Sorry, I misunderstood what you’ve said. The difference between the current info sharing option and contact posters is more subtle: it basically lets the sender also control the fonts used and some other aspects of the call screen and contacts card.

So the new contacts app only shows three lines of contact information without scrolling? All so they can show off a feature that most of my contacts probably won’t support?
I guess that's the point - it's your duty to bully your contacts into getting the phones that support it and then it won't bother you as much.

I just can't wait for multiple timers. Having just one timer on your device when cooking is a huge limitation.

I get that the whole point of Contact Posters is people being able to customize the way they're seen on others' iPhones, but damn…do I wish I could make ones for people that I know will never get around to it. 😂
