I don't' ever use the button for photos. I'll use it for AI search but for photos its just too awkward for me to mess with.

This is AWESOME! I've hated that camera button activating in my car cradle even with the double tap feature engaged. Been a major PIA. Hope that button gets scrapped. It's almost 2025, we don't need more buttons!!!

The TouchBar was such a success they decided to implement it on the iPhone. Who is leading the company???

What is the point of the button again?
Quickly launching the camera and taking pictures or videos. You can also use it to swipe and zoom or do other things. It's probably my favorite feature of the iPhone 16 Pro. It helps with positioning for photos. It helps when taking pictures in awkward positions (like trying to get a photo of a serial number on the back of a device) or without checking the screen to find the camera button.

The swipe to zoom and set other options are no faster than just tapping the screen that is just mm away from the button.

I disabled all the swipe features. It now launches the camera, and is a shutter button.

I agree, but sometimes it's easier to zoom with it than to do that on the screen.

The touch bar replaced the function keys. What does the Camera Control button replace? Answer: it doesn't replace anything, it adds functionality.

I think I hate this ***** button more than anything else. Even when I'm trying to use it, I'm either zooming in or out or switching to video. Completely useless in my opinion. I was happy with a power button and volume up and down. Over complicating a device that is meant to be simple. "Which button do I press? How many times do I have to press it?"
You're not alone there. I constantly hit the button when taking my phone out of my pocket or when trying to hold the phone one handed. That, and when I actually try to use the button as intended it just zooms in and out or switches focal modes on a whim. Absolutely useless. It annoyed me so much that I tried to return my iPhone 16 Pro Max and go back to the 15, but since I'm on iUP it ended up being more hassle than it was worth. I've been an iPhone owner since day 1 and this button is THE WORST thing to ever come to an iPhone.

Likely user error on my part: Something I’ve been experiencing since upgrading to the launch-day 16 Pro, is I constantly open the camera app to take a photo (still launching from the “old” Lock Screen method - not Camera Control), and my Exposure is jacked (super hot). I don’t recall setting it that hot, but I now spending more time returning setting to a point-and-shoot/nominal state than before Camera Control existed.

Am I missing a setting that will ensure Camera is zero’s out when I launch Camera? I’d much rather tweak for a specific shot than have to tweak setting every time I launch Camera. Thanks.

Just set camera button to double click to open camera. Its perfect.

I was skeptical but as I have used the button it has gotten more and more useful.

The TouchBar failed because the function keys were overall better. The TouchBar tried to solve a problem that didn't exist. Likewise, navigating the camera through the screen is better as its much more intuitive. And as a result, the Camera Control will fail just like the TouchBar, IMO.

Disable Exposure Adjustment and everything else that you want to launch zeroed

you could already set it to two presses to prevent accidental engagement... as for its usefulness, it does require some getting used to and ultimately offers better control of image capture.

Does Camera Control replace the on-screen navigation and controls?

No, as I said in my previous post, it tries to solve a problem that didn't exist, just like the TouchBar. Does it add any value? I don't think so. Playing the semantics game won't change that it's a gimmick, just like the TouchBar.

I am shocked and delighted that Apple has so recognized a failure in their user experience so soon after releasing a feature that should have never left Cupertino.

Still, I've forgotten about the function since disabling it entirely. Perhaps it if worked properly out of the gate I would have acclimated to it.

Now, if they would offer to disable the Lock Screen wipe to access the camera...

I changed the button setting to double press to activate. That has pretty much solved the accidental triggering.
I tried this to solve the accidental photos which was great. But it's still an awkward button that's too complex for normal picture taking. I'm sure it's lovely for "Pros" to have but I prefer the more accessible on screen controls.
