iOS 18.2: End Accidental Camera Control Presses on iPhone 16

A good example of all the new features coming so often: Touch something that was not needed. It takes time and energy to figure out what happened and how to get out of the feature to complete the original task. It can be very annoying.

That button has not to be a waste, it would just need to function as a second action button with its own custom action.

I have never had this happen & I often wear my Airpods on my motorcycle. You'd need to have the crown rub up against something in such a way for the crown to rotate

Exactly. It typically happens if I’m lying down while playing music, podcasts, etc and move my arm in such a way that the watch brushes against the sheets, side of the sofa, etc. Doesn’t happen that often, but very annoying when it does!

If it's that much of an issue for you, use a small piece of tape to immobilize the crown.

Err, no thanks! I just try to remember to take my watch off when sleeping/relaxing, but it still trips me up occasionally.

Small but useful change. But this might slow down opening the camera. Some might find it useful. Anyway happy to see the option now.

You do know this was always the default behaviour of of the button this option now allows us to not need a double press now, mr got the article wrong

it's still useless and in the wrong spot. It's too far in to reach without covering the screen or to be difficult and uncomfortable to use.
As a professional photographer, placement of buttons is very important. This button was designed by geeks and not photographers. Besides it was reappropriated from the old SIM card slot space on the phone so it is in the wrong position because it was easier than to move everything one Inch to the right...
Besides, nobody shoots landscape anymore. 80% of the Internet content is vertical so there is even
less use for this button...

If I’m shooting in portrait mode, I just use the joint and end of my thumb to press it if I’m using it one handed. I’d using both hands, I can use the tip or whatever part of my thumb or any other finger. I find that works very well.

People are dumb! What’s the point of the button if the phone is not locked? You want the button to quickly access your camera so you want it to launch when the screen is closed. What’s the point of the button if you gotta unlock your phone first and then turn to the side and then push the button. What’s the point? There isn’t one you could do that without the button. Makes no sense.

You are also persisting in ignoring the fact that it is not like the Touch Bar because it didn’t replace things that were there before — the function keys were replaced by the Touch Bar. Nothing was replaced by Camera Control. It’s completely new and didn’t remove any functionality. That comparison is not valid.

1. That's not a "fact", that's your opinion.
2. Of course it qualifies as a direct comparison because it's a touch-sensitive button, just like the entire Touch Bar was. In fact, most people liken it to the Touch Bar.
3. Why take offense to people calling it a Touch Bar? If you like it, go ahead and use it. My opinion is that it'll be cancelled.

I’m beginning to wonder if the iPhone 16’s Camera Control is becoming another "Touch Bar" (metaphorically speaking); a gimmicky, cumbersome feature that’s a solution in search of a problem. In my opinion, it’s a poor design decision by Apple, especially on the non-Pro models.

The best way I have found to double tap for the options is using the middle finger to tap and letting the index finger control the Touch Bar

I hate this button:
1. It is so difficult to use (the swiping, double light tapping, etc)
2. It makes taking a photo take way too long
3. The cut-outs in the cases trick me into always thinking thats the top left of the phone, rather than the bottom right
4. Out of the box, it's just yet another (5th) way to open the camera app.
5. Nobody asked for it. Nobody needs it. Nobody likes it.

I was a fan of the Macbook Touchbar, but now I understand the hate the touchbar got with the way this stupid button pisses me off.

I'm sorry to be the one that has to tell you this but it's the Touch Bar but for iPhones...
