I think "Apple Intelligence" is part on device, part Apple datacenters, part ChatGPT integration.
Apple assures the beauty of Apple Intelligence is everything to be done on-device for they are a privacy centric company.

Aren’t they?

I still don't have the new Safari "wallpapers."

However, I'm not losing sleep over it as I still have the ability to choose my own Safari "wallpaper."

Maybe because I only have the 512 GB iPhone 16 Pro Max and those gorgeous "wallpapers" almost certainly require a terabyte. 😃😂

Safari now lets you send others to the specific text on a website you want to.

"In addition to the new backgrounds, Safari now supports linking to text highlights on web pages. The idea here is that you can select text on any web page, tap ‘Copy Link with Highlight’, and share the copied link so that anyone opening it will immediately be shown the specific text you highlighted in yellow on that web page. It’s a small but amazing functionality for any kind of work that relies..."

Apple TV

The navigation bar in the TV app can be customized, with options to add different apps and Library categories. Existing options like MLS and Apple TV+ cannot be removed.

Ok... the EU demands to remove all kinds of stuff from iOS, but no option to remove MLS channel in the AppleTV+ app? If there's one thing I want is the option to remove a category's or genre channels from any video- and music streaming service. It is very time consuming to filter all those violent series like Squid Game (on Netflix) from the accounts of my kids. The age setting often doesn't do the job. Hopefully AI assistance can change that over time? Maybe it can also help me not having to say over and over to Siri to permanently stop suggesting (thus removing!) horrible cursing hip-hop noise on the "new" tab in Apple Music?

You forgot to include Ireland here. Apple Intelligence supports English in Ireland now as well as these countries.
  • Languages - With iOS 18.2, Apple Intelligence supports English in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK in addition to U.S. English, so if you're in Canada, you no longer have to set your iPhone to U.S. English to use Apple Intelligence.

No mail categorisation for non AI capable phones?

Even macrumor and 9-5 had been fooled that mail categorisation is one of the non AI features.

Going through 3 upgrades for iOS 18, it got me a feel that Apple is deliberately confusing the customers which new features require AI!
I am getting on IP 15.

A lot of changes with this update. Improvements to the video player is good. Looking forward to trying out all the new Apple Intelligence features. Genmoji and Image Playground should be fun to use. Hopefully Siri is somewhat better.

Oh, I am wrong, macrumor as well 😅

The mail categorisation does not require AI.

Though my system lang is set to other languages, I set the mail app lang to English, and it got me the Mail categorisation.

Need more time to figure out!

Enclosed the screen capture!
Not so sure about this, updated my 13PM and it showed me the categorize view right away. As I read the article from this morning I immediately turned it bat to “list view” but at the bottom it said “categorizing”.
But whatever, wish Apple wouldn’t introduce change for change sake changes like this.
Yes it's even on my SE2.
Thank you all for confirming that MR article is wrong.

This is a feature that every time it has been talked about, hasn’t been specified wether it is AI powered or not. So glad it is on device!

Now would be nice if we had the option to sync all the read/unread mails from the non-iCloud email accounts across all of our devices.

I find that those writing tools are heavily moderated. Try using explicit language and then try to make it sound friendlier. The apple woke ethos will not allow this. I have to go to chatgpt or Grok directly. The entire point of making it sounds friendlier is that we humans sometimes write hot headed. I don't understand why Apple tries to police life so much in their California bubble view.

Thea have also added the Windows XP Browser Ballot as well. iPad, iPhone and Mac all made me select my default browser, when they rebooted… On my home and work devices!

MR said before the mail categorisation not requiring AI. That s why I long waited for 18.2 and installed it in a heartbeat.

Reckoned no mail categorisation after the iOS upgrade, I thought it was my lang setting limiting this feature as Apple often launch new features for US English only.

I am using a IP13.
Most of the features are US English only, as far as I am aware. I know that my German devices won’t be getting any Apple Intelligence features until March or April next year.

Maybe they mistook requiring english language with AI enabled.

I‘m in the EU but have my phone set to english US for years already, the new Mail app categorization works just fine. Meanwhile my wife doesn‘t have it with her phone set to german (she switched to EN US and it showed up, until she switched back).

Too bad my phone is set to my native language (Spain’s Spanish).

Mind you, I’ve thought about setting all my devices to US EN just to enable all the features that keep being restricted from us… I can’t even see my iPhone on my M4 Mac running Sequoia! All because of the language.

Changing the language wont unlock any real features (other than the new Mail app), I just prefer using my devices in english.

For example, Apple Intelligence wont work with simple language changes.
The mail categorization also seems to struggle with non-english content, I had to manually categorize hundreds of mails since installing 18.2 a week ago.

I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max and once I updated to 18.2 I now have Mail categories. So it is working on my iPhone 14.

Mail categorization works on iPhone 13 Pro. I turned it off. At a glance too many emails miscategorized IMHO. Until it can be customized just means I have to check four different places for new email. Surprised wasn't on Mac where it would be easier to explore, but I doubt I'll miss it. I mainly read email on Mac, but often have to search on phone for tickets or reservations.
