Thank you MR for confirming that the new email categorization is exclusive for iPhone 15 Pro, 16, and 16 Pro, alongside with M-powered iPads and the latest iPad mini. I thought this feature could be handed to most Apple devices with a 16core neural engine but apparently, the 8GB of RAM are necessary for this feature.

Now, what would be really interesting, is assigning default apps to different types of documents (pdf, epub, docx…) especially on iPad. But apparently the new default apps section is restricted to iPhone.

Fresh install of iOS 18.2 on an iPhone 13-Mini:

Anyone updated to 18.2 on their iPhone 16 Pro Max"? Any noticeable issues or should I wait until mid January to upgrade?

Visual Intelligence, email organization seems nice.

Image playground is hot garbage. It looks like an early build of image software from 2023. Likely due to the limited number of parameters available with a phone size and wanting it to be fast. But the real crime - Apple had an opportunity to do some Apple like with the People on your phone since it has so many photos and knows so much already connecting them. They could have created custom LORAs for each person and generated images that truly look like them. Instead the likeness is terrible. About 10% of the pictures look 5% like the subject. It’s so bad it shouldn’t be there. WhatsApp has some terrible feature like this and 90% of the time the person is identifiable. Bad Apple.

Language not supported… really? English (UK). Plus that stupid message shows up behind the dynamic island. Apple’s QA going down the drain
I’m getting that too. In the end I tried asking it to just draw a circle and it asked for a human face to use as the basis. 🙄

18.2 is buggy! Home Screen wallpaper goes black. Had to reset it all. Facebook app completely froze when trying to select photos. Disappointed in the quality of updates from Apple lately.

On iPhone 11 Pro 256 GB, iOS 18.2 is optimal: no slowdowns, no battery drain (but I have a new battery, changed a month ago). I find it works better and more fluidly than 18.1.1 (and of 18.2 beta, RC1 and RC2..I'm registered as an Apple developer and I tried the beta and RC). However, on such an old iPhone I do not have any AI features and, therefore, it is perhaps not a good model to express an opinion on this iOS 18.2! I don't use Mail app, but gmail app (for work, nor facebook, so I can't give feedback on that.

Having major problems with messaging since upgrading. Phone appears to be sending RCS messages by default. iMessages are failing and RCS or SMS are sent instead. I can’t get messages in group chats to go through. Also when I go into settings and turn off RCS, RCS is not turned off.

Anyone else having these issues and have a fix?

Does iOS 18.2 consume more battery on iPhone 13 or 13 mini than iOS 17?
I haven't really noticed such.

Lately, it seems that my battery never really drains; but my perception is probably skewed because I've been spending most of my time with the kiddos' finals, EOC testing, etc.

My SOT is often in the <=1h/day range :)

same here... the wall background turns black for no reason... it seems like when the phone goes low power mode... not so sure.

Too bad my phone is set to my native language (Spain’s Spanish).

Mind you, I’ve thought about setting all my devices to US EN just to enable all the features that keep being restricted from us… I can’t even see my iPhone on my M4 Mac running Sequoia! All because of the language.
hmm.... i reckoned the lang setting is quite an issue for maximizing the use of iphone as a productivity tool.

some of the new amazing features, e.g. live voice mail transcription, voice memo transcription, is hinged on the setting lang setting. also, while most of the apps allow setting to a lang other than that in system setting, a few native apps, like contact, photo, map, wallet have to stick to the system lang... it make bilingual users problems with setting the UI to one lang for convenient (english for broader support, native lang for voice recording transcription) and using the apps in other lang for flexibility (setting map to local lang for the area one is travelling).

i really do not understand why the app lang could not be totally separate from system lang.

my ipad air is the only device supports AI. i tried the image playground. uploaded a selfie to the app and select a mode, then.... i did not figure out how to generate an image (no button), or do i have to type anything in the text box to proceed with?

Changing the language wont unlock any real features (other than the new Mail app), I just prefer using my devices in english.

For example, Apple Intelligence wont work with simple language changes.
The mail categorization also seems to struggle with non-english content, I had to manually categorize hundreds of mails since installing 18.2 a week ago.
it looks to me like not doing anything for now english mail, or even bilingual mail of having half english.

i see why a nos of you revert it to not using mail categorisation.

while i could tolerate the mail app mistakenly categorised any of the mails, i hate to find the grouped mails, or digest view as ios says, do not sort the mails in chronological orders. hence, like... i made an order after a chain of mail exchange with the merchant, i do not see the order confirmation mail on the top of the digest view for the mechant.

compared with google's mail categorisation, apple does one more step to group the mails from senders to provide a digest view. i think that's a nice idea but poorly implemented.

for the categorisation, i wish the manual adjusted categorisated would get the ios to learn rather than blindly sort one sender to certain category!
