I have been testing the 18.x betas and when it came was not impressed and turned off on my iPhone anyway so personally do not miss or like it. Indeed no big deal to meTurned it off on iPhone so i'm not particularly mad

No it was not in any of betasMaybe at the last minute they realized most people don't want it.
This is the new technological world we live in.Frankly, I want my mail sorted chronologically!
I am perfectly capable of determining its importance/relevance TO ME!!!
Same for me I tested the betas and turned off the categories as soon as it was on my iPhone did not like itAgree they look like they are dropping the ball frequently enough, but throwing more engineers at the problem is not necessarily the answer. The priorities for the organization need to align with the desired outcomes, and those are set from the top.
As for this feature, not a great loss to me. I prefer simple chrono ordering for my mail.
Yes on several software apps i have noticed that iOS seems to have more features compared to iPad so this is not really a new occurrence in my personal experience eitherFor a long time, the iPad didn’t have feature parity with iOS and was always a year behind. But since iPadOS 18 essentially has no new (iPad exclusive) features, it got everything iOS 18 received this year.
That makes sense the one ongoing bug I reported during beta testing on my M4 iPad Pro was the mail sorting and missing mail from some of my various mail accounts especially exchange server mail. I filed bug reports and the feed back says basically reported by many but was not resolved as of the RC 1 and 2 and not fixed in official 18.2 either so this seems to be the issue. NOTE: this is not issue with my MacBook Pro MacOS though and even with 15.2 my exchange mail (8 messages ) is there in my exchange/and all server inbox. So this is an issue with iPadOS mail only for me.Unfortunately from what heard from industrial sources (who requested to stay anonymous), they ran into major issues when running mail sorting on macOS and iPadOS. The sorting feature is all done on device via neural engine so unfortunately Intel Macs will not get this feature (unless they could figure something out).
They are aiming for 18.3 release for macOS and iPadOS mail sorting and future betas, HOPEFULLY should have this if they don’t have any additional bug that arises.
Thank you! I turned off sorting immediately, but was still left with random logos that took up too much space on the screen. Then I saw you post! Thank you. Email is back to how it should be.Ditto, and also "Show Contacts Photos" that wastes a lot of display space.
Apple: The Coming Later CompanyMaybe someone commented already, but I think Apple said they would be coming to Mac and iPad later.
I'll add to this, why hasn't this supposed wonderful iOS 18 photos update made to the mac? I almost universally do my photo sorting/viewing/editing on mac and not my phone, yet they didn't change anything on macOS.
Photos
• Favourites album appears in the Utilities collection in addition to Pinned Collections
• Recently Viewed and Recently Shared album history can be cleared
But they did…? From the macOS Sequoia 15.2 release notes:
I actually use my M4 13 inch iPad Pro about 70 percent of time, MacBook Pro 16 inch M2 20 percent of time and iPhone 15 PM remainder. For what I do the iPad now is the sit on couch recliner or kitchen table whereas MacBook Pro is in office in back for the few things I need it more than iPad for. I do have to add my photos to the MacBook from my DSLR though so the photos there more important than iPad but the simple editing now can be done on either device for me.Yes, they did add a few features. Where is trips, recent, pinned, enhanced search, automatic organization, wallpaper suggestions, all that?
Personally, I think they should keep macOS and iOS/iPadOS photos app almost 100% on PAR with one another. I guess I'm in a minority now not using my phone as my primacy photo editing and viewing device.
Maybe one day Apple will announce that macOS is now forked from iOS (not from iPadOS) and a whole slew of used to be Mac apps are removed from that point on, such as terminals etc.Just lends more credence to my opinion that Apple now develops iOS first and the Mac is an afterthought software-wise.
Yes iOS is based on macOS but at this point you might as well point out that Windows is based on DOS. It’s so long in the past it’s not relevant anymore.
I do believe Apple treats all users as idiots. Every. Single. One. Of. Them. This is the new technological world we live in.
It's seems to be designed for idiots.
I think you are correct. I used to say, "Apple software was designed for teenagers", but, "designed for idiots" is a better characterization. This is the new technological world we live in.
