What do the arrows in the upper left corner do?
In my Lexus/Toyota it makes the screen smaller by a little so the car toolbar will always be visible even if CarPlay is up. (see example)

Wow, Apple's break-neck pace of innovation continues. This ALL NEW CarPlay Home Screen now how a THIRD row of icons, making your loved apps more accessible than ever. This truly is the next generation of CarPlay, for true car pros!

I would settle for CarPlay to return to the Now Playing screen after each time I turn the car back on. This has been broken for me since the beginning of iOS 18.

There are 3 things I waited for too long, only to finally realize they weren't going to happen.
- The Winds of Winter
- Hollow Knight: Silksong
- Next generation of CarPlay

I just wish I could somehow toggle within CarPlay between listening to SiriusXM, listening to the FM radio, and listening to my music or podcasts. If I want to go to SiriusXM or to the FM radio, I have to exit CarPlay completely including the Maps function.
My 2022 Sienna has a steering wheel button that toggles between audio inputs while CarPlay is on screen, so my maps stay up when I change inputs. There is a second steering wheel button so I can change radio stations while Car Play/maps is on screen.

That’s awesome

My dad has CarPlay in his Lexus and I use CarPlay when we go on long drives so I’m glad that Apple has made it better by offering an extra row of application icons on the display

I hope that more cars implement wireless CarPlay in the future as my dad’s car does not have wireless CarPlay so I have to use an adapter to get it to be wireless - it would be nice if Apple made their own adapter to allow people to use wireless CarPlay (if it’s not already built into their cars)

Bluetooth latency is still a problem for me on wireless. It seems now wired carplay is actually a higher end feature. Ideally a car would have both as each has its advantages and disadvantages. And it it's easier to go from wired to wireless than the other way around.

Home app as well, or at least a few scenes.

Hopefully this is coming since they just added garage support, and have apparently lowered their ambitions on CarPlay 2.0 and started working on "1.0" again, since this is the first attention I remember it getting in a while.

I have both available to me in my BYD Atto3.
Wireless works well enough most of the time.

Can they make Google fix the issue in the latest Waze release where you can't tap at the top of the screen in CarPlay to bring up a search box, and instead have to press the magnifying glass on the right side? Who told them to change that? Apple should ban the app until it's brought back to the old way.

All I want is for the screen to show CarPlay and also display the outside temperature as derived from the vehicle. I think it's stupid to have to exit CarPlay to see what the temperature is outside.

Try driving a BYD where you have to exit CarPlay to adjust the aircon!

Why would you need that? Your phone is literally right there in the car with you, and if you need to track down your AirPods or whatever, you can easily pick it up when you're stopped and do just that. There are already waaayyy too many people pulling boneheaded distracted driving crap without Apple putting toys on the big shiny screen on the dashboard.
Dude the whole reason of operation for findmy doesn’t revolve soley around your use case. Jeez…. Plenty of people use it to find other people and the ability to immediately start directions to that person is very useful indeed, its not all about finding your lost airpods. Christ almighty..

In saying that one thing they could do to improve this is either or add the following: update the gps directions as the other person moves, and b) offer a kind of calculated midway point that allows bith people to meet with minimal travel time for both. Soo if we are 50 miles apart it picks a good location 25 miles between and send directions toneach other. Bonus points if it could determine a good location and not just a point on a road somewhere. Thatvwould require serious apple intelligence and a 16gb reserved iphone v20 probably. Wve been waiting years already for this feature.

You’d want it for your friends and family, not your devices.

There’s plenty of instances where you’d want to see quickly where they’re at and get directions to their location.

Great to see that it will make use of larger screen. Definitely a very small but useful update. This should have been allowed a long time ago.
