iOS 18.4 Includes a Small But Useful Change for CarPlay

Same here. I don’t want more clutter and prefer the user friendliness of large icons.
Most importantly, there isn’t even three rows of useful apps that I want to see or use in the car.
Ugh, hit the wrong reply button but did confirm my 9" screen still does two rows on 18.4. I only use like 4 apps, mainly what is in the sidebar! Didn't even know there were enough apps to support pages and pages of CarPlay views 🤣
I Hope to get 4 Lines of 5 Apps per Line, so i only have to use one screen. On 15,6“ Apple CarPlay is to big at the Moment.
I also dislike that carplay doesn't resume to playing now! Come on, music playback is the most common thing that people are likely to use in carplay.
If apple give us weather and calculator apps there will be reasons for me to use three rows of icons.
I can't help but notice the number of times I see the map up on so many CarPlay drivers when I'm at a light so I assume this was suppose to not "force" a view on a driver. BUT, why not give us an option to set a preferred first view at launch? The lack of preferences and options is uncanny. All the talk of Apple revolutionizing CarPlay the last few years, i don't need it to go all the way across my dashboard, I just want to make it work the way i want it to work. Crazy ask I know.
I completely agree. I use an external carplay screen and it's a bit of a reach while driving. I keep it on maps or waze 99% of the time, but also make or receive calls. The fact that any phone call takes over your gps view and hides it for the length of the call is downright stupid. How is that a thing at all, let alone the only option?
Well, I was hoping to see a third row on my Bronco’s 12” screen, but I still have just two rows.
Do you know if manufacturers have to update their software in some way to show the changes of carplay in iOS 18.4? Maybe it is not only a matter of size but it depends on screen ratio. For example, VW biggest screen has 15” and it does not show third row of apps…
And other question, some cars show apple maps turn on directions on HUD (like BMW or VW). I expected that with ios 18.4, as you can choose google maps like main maps app, now turn on directions navigation through google maps would show on HUD too. Is that correct?

I think my mum would have preferred a CD player. Or maybe a cassette player…
