Mac OS Sharing a folder / drive is currently

General (!?) > Sharing > File Sharing > Switch on > ℹ️ > Unscalable model Pop up window > Done.

Used to be 1 click away. Sharing.

And what's with all this Done and Apply ( and pop-ups!!!)? Apple got rid of all these window foibles years ago... Click something and it's applied.

There is no claim that he “confirmed” it with anyone. He states it as a fact. As usual, he doesn’t cite his sources. You can take it as a rumor. Same procedure as every week.
The word “confirmed” means the claim was corroborated as a fact from an appropriate authority. Otherwise it seems Gurman did nothing but repeat a rumor. Poor word choice I suspect.

For macOS, Apple should go back to System Preferences instead of System Settings. Tim Cook is so mediocre and clueless, that he didn't see anything wrong with making macOS look like iOS by changing System Preferences to System Settings. Clueless Cook just doesn't get it. In his money-grubbing and MBA degree-influenced mind, he knows the iPhone is Apple's biggest money maker, so he probably thought Apple would make more money if macOS looked more like iOS, and thus didn't raise any opposition to the software idiots who changed System Preferences to System Settings.

This would've never happened if true visionaries like Steve Jobs and Scott Forstall were still at Apple.

With the upcoming iOS 18 and macOS 15 updates, Apple plans to streamline the Settings app, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman confirmed today. He said that while it's not a "huge deal," there are some changes planned.
I thought this was earlier iOS 18 and macOS 15 news that the system settings was going to see some modest logical groupings so where things are make more sense then the current system settings?

Settings on MacOS was just overhauled completely several years ago. I sure hope Apple isn't turning into one of those ridiculous firms that changes things just to change things, expecting end users to re-learn basic functions, etc., all over again and again and again as a result.

The word as used here means that MacRumors takes Gurman’s statement as confirmation of the existing rumor. You don’t have to agree with MacRumors’ assessment, but the word as used here doesn’t mean that Gurman took any confirming action himself. Gurman’s statement is the source of the confirmation, not the result.

The search in the iOS Settings app is not very good. It's often easier (or even only possible) to get to things by tapping through manually. And some settings are similarly named with little context so it can be tricky to know what you're actually selecting.

That’s why I asked the op for clarification.
In case you can’t access the Twitter link for some reason, this is the news:

The MacRumors article is reporting on this tweet, and nothing else.

Glad to hear this. The new Settings app that debuted in macOS Ventura (version 13) has been a disaster, IMO.

Not only is the UX in many ways worse than the version that preceded it, with many UI glitches and inconsistencies, its performance is terrible.

Even on a brand new M3 Mac, there is often significant lag when switching between tabs/panes. Can’t imagine what it’s like on an older Intel Mac!

And you can’t even resize the damn window horizontally, which in some panes would be a very welcome workaround for the badly laid out UI elements.

System Settings are a really important part of the macOS user experience, but it seems like Apple have forgotten this in the current version. The whole thing feels like it was cobbled together by some interns as their summer project.

Please, please get it right this time, Apple!

All that I need on my Mac is for settings to not be restricted for width. You can make the stupid app as tall as you want, but not as wide. And then when using multiple displays the displays overflow off the side of the app.

The Settings app on iPhone and iPad and the System Settings on Macs will get an updated UI with a "reorganized, cleaner layout" that's simpler to navigate. Search in the Settings app is also set to improve, and that's been a major issue with prior versions of iOS and macOS.

On iOS specifically, searching for an option in the Settings app often returns no results or the wrong result. A search for "Charging Optimization," a setting on the iPhone 15 Pro models, does not bring up the interface, for example. There are several other smaller settings options that are similarly inaccessible when searching.

Part of the changes planned for iOS 18 and macOS 15 include major updates to Spotlight and search throughout the operating systems, as well as an overhauled version of Siri that is able to control all individual features in apps. Combined, these updates should make it easier to get to some of the more hidden settings on Apple devices.

A prior rumor suggested that Apple would overhaul the macOS System Settings app, introducing rearranged menus and app UIs in an update that will be the biggest since the Settings app was refreshed in macOS Ventura. On the Mac, Apple is said to be using an organizational system focused on "priority and overall importance," and the same changes could be made on iOS as well.

The Notifications and Sound categories in System Settings will be moved lower in the list, with General settings moved up under Network settings. Wallpaper and Displays will join General settings, and Privacy and Security will be paired with Touch ID and Password.

Apple is also planning to refresh the Control Center on iOS 18 and Apple has been testing the changes internally, but specific updates are unclear at this time.

More on the features that are coming to iOS and macOS can be found in our iOS 18 and macOS 15 roundups, which are updated regularly with all of the new rumors that we've heard.

The 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference keynote is set to take place on Monday, June 10, with Apple unveiling iOS 18, macOS 15, and also iPadOS 18, tvOS 18, visionOS 2, and watchOS 11.

I just got a new Mac a week ago and setting it up it updated OSX to the latest version. Being I was setting up a new Mac I was in the setting app and somethings had already changed. GRRRRRRRR!!!

I like the old settings app before they switched to the more iOS one. I was starting to get used to the new, not liking it, but getting used to it and now things are moving around. Also search in settings is get more and more useless. Seem like they are removing some thing and renaming others. Apple is the one company that comes up with some nice software, then slowly with every update takes away the stuff that made it nice.

repeating myself, if it is changes to actually improve, great. Don't need another change for change sake (a la macOS setting "update")
What a unecessary ugly mess that turned out to be. It looked like Apple got tired of Microsoft copying their moves and instead decided to sit back and take their ui design ideas from Redmond, home of "But why would we need designers when we can just have our engineers design it???".

Control Center could be so so much better, let’s hope for the best. I absolutely can’t imagine that we really get a huge overhaul but we will see on June 10th.
