Yes this is true but 5w is incredibly slow nowadays, especially on devices with 4000mah+ batteries. It’s ok if you charge overnight.
Unpopular opinion, but 4000mAh+ iPhones should have enough battery life to make it through the day with battery to spare, it’s insane that people need to charge multiple times a day, especially on original iOS versions.

I can’t understand how people use devices so heavily that they’re cycling an iPhone 15 on iOS 17 more than once per day.

Yet you see it, people with over a cycle and a half per day on average. With the absurd battery life these iPhones have, there shouldn’t be a problem. You can even charge before you go to sleep, perhaps people have enough time. If you don’t kill it maybe in two hours it’s full again.

I’m unusually efficient, but I’m typically ending the day with my 16 Plus with about 75-80% left. And my average last 10 days SOT is 6 hours, so I use it.

@FeliApple I used to charge multiple times per day when I had my 15 Pro around 3300mah, the battery life was trash imo and a 5w charger with less heat for top ups through the wasn’t fast enough.

Since I got the 16e I never need to top it up through the day with the 4000mah+ battery, 90% charge limit is set.

You charged multiple times per day, but what range of the battery did you use? By this I mean, did you charge to 100% and did you use the full range of the battery?

Well I started with the 80% limit but found that wasn’t enough, when it got down to around 25-30% I plugged it in and back up to 80% multiple times a day with a 30w charger for the first month.

15 pro max, battery good/okay on 18.4.1; it’s kind of crap on 18.5.

But I was tired of CarPlay disconnecting.

+1

I still use my old 5W charger and my 14 PLus (which has at the same time less energy consumption and a big battery) charges quite fast if needed.
But I chose eco-charging over night...

I am convinced that using the 5 W charger is safer for the battery compared with "faster" chargers.

It is quite rare that I need to charge my iP 14 Plus during the day...

Everything is very bad. It is worth disconnecting from Wi-Fi, driving around the city with LTE with an excellent signal and the battery literally melts before your eyes. Terrible 18th iOS.

Those who criticise bad battery life should use the IOS option to analyse factors which are responsible for battery drain and adapt their way of using the iPhone and iPad...
many people seem to never or rarely put off WiFi or Bluetooth if not necessary so. Nearly nobody needs 120 frames/sec or "truetone" they would mostly not even miss a lot of hardware and software gimmicks - if they were not yet implemented ... just for marketings "arguments" not for real life demands... perhaps they would not even think about it yet...
And just to say: I use always dark mode - which saves energy for more battery life.... one of the recent options which make really sense (often enough better visible screen) .

On 17.7.1 I used the phone the same way as now and there were no problems with battery consumption. This is a firmware problem.

I edited my posting while you answered already the first version of it..

No, it is (not only) the firmware, more hardware features and a lot of software-gimmicks are not for free: You pay with less reliability and more energy consumption for mostly useless "new features"...
That is why I stayed cool and am happy with a 14 Plus and why I miss just nothing more than taht.
If someone thinks to need most new features (like i.e. the bad and energy-consuming "AI" options and 120 frames/sec) has to accept more battery draining.

Nothing is for free in life.... ;)

Objectively, if you do not take into account all sorts of new iOS functions, now on 18.4.1 my internet speed in the city with LTE is WORSE than in the same conditions on 17.7.1 and battery consumption has also increased significantly, with the same signal quality. I think that the main culprit is "cellular data", because when working from Wi-Fi, the consumption is much less. Again, on 17.7.1, both from LTE and from Wi-Fi, the consumption was almost the same and normal (I myself was surprised how LTE consumed the charge on par with Wi-Fi)

Even when charging before 20% and up to 80%, this is the current state of the battery health on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I will take it to the service center tomorrow.

I tend to believe that they won’t do anything, but hope I am wrong..
My 15 PM I started using it at first of July last year - and it has 284 cycles with 92% battery health - you charged yours a bit more than me, but still completely normal I would say.
Nevertheless fingers crossed for you my friend!

They won’t do anything unless the max battery is below 80%. My 15 Pro Max is at 88% max with 349 cycles so what you have seems normal. Note that I have optimized charging enabled but don’t do anything special charge-wise.

I installed 18.5 on Monday on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. It’s now Sunday, 6 days later, and my phone is still showing the “Update finishing in background” message. I’ve never seen that message display more than a couple of days. In the battery chart I see “device setup & usage” using around 4% battery every day of the week. I’m also getting worse significantly battery life. Yesterday I had about 22 minutes of usage, which was around the same as last Saturday, but the battery usage was about 20% higher. I restarted today. Hopefully that will help

I’m experiencing the same issue here, but unfortunately, your battery health is significantly worse than mine.

Mine began to gradually decrease from 100% to 97% since end of last month. Interestingly, my 15 Pro was still at 100% for the first few months of its usage.

Does MagSafe contribute to this change? I noticed it is considered a slow charger.

I’ve started a thread to see if anyone else is experiencing the same issue as me! Here’s the link: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/should-i-be-concerned.2457378/

Same issue ip15promax

I overnight swapped my MagSafe charger for a cable charger, but it disappeared. This happens before, and the message goes back.
