Hopefully, those of us with access to the iOS 17 betas continue to get access these.

I'm not a developer, but they seem to have opened it up over the last couple of releases.

How is the fact that it works on every app outside of Apple's own mail app a Google issue? if it was a Google issue it wouldn't work on any app outside of their own Gmail app.
It works for everyone except Google but Google isn't at fault? Am I misunderstanding what you're saying?

Just because a third-party alternative exists doesn't mean that Apple shouldn't try to improve their native app.
I didn't say that i don't welcome RCS - indeed i welcome that! - i said, the alternative with e. g. Signal already existed for years.

It works on every app outside of apple's mail app. The person I was replying to claimed its a google issue since it doesn't work on apples mail app. This is 100% an apple issue since it works on other email apps (that aren't google's app while also working on Google's Gmail app).

So, everyone is ok with Ai that is right 40% to 60% of the time? ooook… ok. I guess might still be an increase from human error.

Lets say a human that is wrong 100% of the time suddenly is right 60% of the time is a huge improvement!

Perhaps overall it balances out?

One thing I dont like is open-ai. Why not let us choose between providers?

Am I right in saying you don't need to have a developer account? You just need to enable the Developer Beta in Software Updates?

Will I successfully resist the urge to put the first beta on my phone, or will I fold immediately like a poorly built house of cards? 😩

Given that this may be the most exciting iOS update in years, I'm thinking 🃏♠️

Hmmm... am I going to get any of my wishlisted features this year? Probably not.

  • Toggle for App Library to be the alpha sort by default instead of an additional gesture
  • Make the App Library alpha sort look more like the watchOS list view
  • Ability to rename/remove app category names in App Library
  • Ability to rename (nickname) apps
  • Ability to hide apps
  • Hide widget names
  • Split screen apps
  • Get rid of the jelly wiggle when editing the home screen
  • Toggle to turn off or speed up FaceID animations
  • Turn off the annoying waveform animation in dynamic island
  • Dynamic island press action defaulted to the long-press action like it always should have been
  • Bring ye olde Dark Sky UI to that ugly Weather app

Hey MacRumors, you forgot about 'Apple Account'? it would be quite important part should renaming be followed by functional improvements.
That's independent of iOS18 though, which is what this article is about.

I can’t wait to see new ways Apple has found to lock people with the newest devices out of future updates!

Artificially, no less! 🍎

I hope iOS finally gets a way to quickly record snippets during a phone call. For example, while talking on speaker phone I can quickly access Control Centre and touch a button to immediately start recording what's on the screen and all the audio. 🤌

Again, it's Google's fault because it doesn't work on Apple yet works for every other app? The mental gymnastics apple fans will go through to justify apple having an inferior app is mind blowing.

You're right. I don't remember the exact details but it has to do with the way mail.app does not support IMAP IDLE... Back in the days Gmail used to work because it supported dual access via IMAP or Exchange protocol so people would set up their Gmail as an exchange account. But then google stopped supporting exchange access and it was no longer possible to get push in mail.app.... Other third party apps are able to approximate push notifications on gmail using OAUTH to poll your email account... But the only true push is the official Gmail app.

The mental gymnastics complainers go through to create drama. Unless you have read the code or have some other verifiable way to prove Apple is the problem here, you might want to try investigating your claim before making it. I have outlook, gmail, and iCloud on my phone. Outlook and iCloud both allow push, gmail does not. Seems like the problem is google.

As an IT Support guy, to me any feature that starts with "Overhaul" is a headache waiting to happen with my 2000+ users.

OK. When you say "Or simply use a messenger like Signal, like the rest of the world does" (it doesn't), it really sounds like you're saying "why bother with anything else, just use Signal".
Oh my, Signal (my preferred Messenger) was just an example (e. g.) for *any* messenger. I'm sure, the statistics for e. g. WhatsApp does look a lot different to Signals...
