Because all my devices are Apple, I am rooting for Apple. I want to be pleasantly surprised, but I am prepared to be disappointed. I want the iOS 18 announcement to be a 15/10, but based on recent years, right now I am expecting 2/10. I'd be pleasantly surprised if it ends up somewhere like 5-8/10.
Yeah, that's how I'm looking at it too

Don't get me wrong, I am excited, but seeing as to how I have the regular/non-pro iPhone 15, it sounds like I won't be getting a lot of these on-device AI features either at all or in a more limited capacity

Apple generally doesn't tout features at WWDC that are limited to just the most recent phones, those get touted when the phones themselves debut in the fall (as they're considered features of the phone not of the OS). If Final Cut and Logic for iPad are any indicator then the majority of AI features will be coming to any phone with an A12 or maybe A14-level Neural Engine or higher. All of Logic's AI features run on an M1 or higher (some even run on an A-series chip), and only a small number of Final Cut Pro's more demanding features require the M4, the rest will run on an M1. So don't assume the AI features will be restricted to just the newest Pro level phone.

Maybe they should apply the power of AI to do basic things, like play the correct version of a song request, and not some cover by a band I’ve never heard of.

Actually, Apple could’ve fixed this problem years ago without AI if they still obsessed over UX details like they used to.

..And don't forget about emojis obsession as well. How many engineers or programmers will be full time dedicated to emojis' development?

He meant probably the only way to turn it off would be to turn iMessage off as the person thinks it will be baked into it.
As there’s a switch to turn off iMessage I can’t see why there wouldn’t be one to switch off RCS.

You won't have the option to turn it off unless you turn it off?
You can turn rcs off on android. Millions have done it.

Also rcs is not supported by third party messaging apps (rcs is only applicable in google messages)

I can’t see apple forcing rcs when they don’t even want it. iMessage can also be turned off.

SMS is not going anywhere. It’s still necessary for when iMessage or rcs fail since they rely on data.

AI, AI, more AI, even more AI. Sadly, I think the biggest success in AI will be with scammers. They are about to get much more sophisticated and tools like voice recognition to infer identity are going to be rendered useless (this includes recording "your" responses on a recorded line). We already know how secure email addresses and phone numbers are. The desperation to release AI and "make hay while the sun shines" will result security holes galore.
Not like there’s nobody imagining such kind of mass abuse of AI before, some before AI was even a thing irl. I’m not saying current AI can dismantle the trust system we build today, but it’s only a matter of time before AI crushes everything we cherish, short of producing offspring For us by AI.
Some are shocked that Apple only allows AI features to be available on recent devices. I would be happy if said feature is not available cause my parents don’t need more confusing stuff when they just start to learn how to use Face ID.

iOS 18 is just days away, with Apple set to unveil the software update during its WWDC keynote on June 10. Many new features and changes are expected for the iPhone, with more details outlined in our rumor recap below.

The first beta of iOS 18 should be made available to members of the Apple Developer Program immediately after the WWDC keynote, and a public beta will likely follow in July. The update should be widely released to all users in September, and it is rumored that it will be compatible with the same list of iPhone models as iOS 17.

Here are some of the key new features and changes rumored or previewed for iOS 18 so far:

I don't want "AI generated new summaries", I want an overview of sources with links on a specific subject and able to read different views on that topic myself. I will not allow any AI manipulation in between. This is a red line and I understand Big Tech will not respect this as they are all high from the AI hype. But for me, it means de-digitalization and a departure from smart phone.

I hope Apple fix all their language problems with the LLM:s. Is it not embarrasing to see the list of supported countries/languages for scribble, for example, 3 years after introduction?

From my experience with AI at work (Large Hospital Org in the Midwest), it's a flash in the pan. Our IT director is trying WAY too hard to find a reason to spend the org's money on AI licensing we'll never use. People just don't like the whole "AI Chat Bot" thing. People like Email or picking up the phone and calling. Right now is the time where EVERYone wants to show the new shiny...

But after Microsoft's Recall is out on however millions of computers, all some nefarious threat actor needs to do is to convince Gramma or Grampa they need help with their computer and then remote in and copy over the small text file that Recall's AI uses to scrape all of those screenshots for the data and then not only could they have Usernames & Passwords, but they could have actual screenshots of Account Numbers and other information they'd enter anywhere on the web or even just in a Local Word Doc. My Mom keeps her "last will" type of stuff on a Word Doc on a USB drive. Even that locally stored Word Doc on a USB drive will be included in Recall, and then that info also scraped into a small text file. That's how Recall works, and unfortunately I see no good reason for it other than IT admins keeping an eye on folks at work, or some Bad Actor using that info to get at more info.

How many Terminator movies do we need to see to wonder when AI is actually not a good thing? :)

People in the history repeated this pattern over and over. Shiny new tech? Adapt asap. Consequences? Nah, that’s next generation’s problems now. Worked before well enough but not today. AI will outpace human very quickly. By then it’s gonna be far too late.

Right now folks are using AI to build apps. How long until AI Chat Bots build their own apps using AI and then THOSE apps start making their own apps.... It's a Brave New World.

Again, it's Google's fault because it doesn't work on Apple yet works for every other app? The mental gymnastics apple fans will go through to justify apple having an inferior app is mind blowing.
Get over yourself because google doesn’t have beef with other companies like they do with Apple and Gmail is the most popular used email so it encourages people to download the Gmail app duh

Apple really needs to decouple app updates from OS updates. Imagine finishing up your calculator overhaul and sitting on it for months because it can't ship till the rest of the OS is ready.
I agree, although Apple can already do this they simply choose not to I guess for the new Update refresh gives a more “wow” factor I’m assuming, google had had no choice but to go this route because manufacturers for even $500+ devices would sometimes not get even one OS update but they much better at it now then before, LG, ZTE, and old Samsung were notorious for not giving updates

I just humbly hope Apple has also found the time to fix the bug that prevents iCal from syncing across devices.

Ah yes, they have "beef" with apple, yet are the defauly search engine on Apple. Your apple blinders are showing. This is 100% an Apple thing. You can try to do all the mental gymnastics that you want, it still doesn't change the fact.
