Then don't use it? I don't understand why some people are against others being able to make their own choice.

I don't care for the rainbow clock but there is someone out there that is excited to use it. Great for them. Not every feature is invented for a single user to benefit from.
Because some people need to be in everyone else's business and feel that their opinion on everything must be heard.

Multicolor clock looks childish. Remember way back when color text was first introduced, and your children all started playing with the cool text. Will it's back.

You make the mistake of thinking that someone needs to decide what appeals to them based on your approval or opinion. Such affirmation is, in fact, nothing.

Maybe I’m missing something but I’m on iOS 18 and I don’t have the multicolor option like that image shows. Is there a step I haven’t done that would make it work?

I’m not seeing it either. Funny enough, I’m only seeing 2 color options when I try to change it (can’t recall how it was on previous versions of iOS for me).

Unrelated, but I'm also not seeing the option to add a quick note control to the bottom quick controls icons.

Currently, iOS 17 only allows a maximum of three small widgets in one row on the lock screen. Has this changed? I would love to have more widgets on a second row.

Apple in iOS 18 has added a new multicolor swatch to the Font & Color customization options on the Lock Screen, so now you can display the time in rainbow colors against your chosen wallpaper.

Unlike the other color swatches, the multicolor option does not currently apply to widgets and the date, which turn white when the rainbow effect is applied. However, there's a good chance this is something Apple intends to implement but has not yet got around to doing so in the developer beta.

iOS 18 also allows users to change the two Flashlight and Camera shortcut buttons on the Lock Screen to an action of their choice for the first time.

The ability to change these Lock Screen controls is part of a wave of new customization features in ‌iOS 18‌, which includes app icon color-changing capabilities and more. The first public beta is set to arrive in July and the official release of iOS 18 is scheduled for the fall.

I mean are we really celebrating the changing of colors on the clock? WHERE is Apple innovation?

iOS 18 has become the MySpace of phone software. The colored icons aren’t going over well at all. Now anyone can make their phone look like a visually hideous mess like it’s 2005!
Except YOU don't have to do this to YOUR phone. Why do you care what other people do?

I'm probably getting old, but nothing in iOS18 interests me or prompts me to upgrade. Same goes for iPadOS18 and macOS15
It is called lack of innovation on Apple's part. If AI comes to my current model (it likely will) I will have no reason to buy another iPhone. Apple needs to start innovating again.

It's childish, but I like it! I haven't been happy with current options, but I also kinda miss when it couldn't be changed at all. Something about the font changed, I think when customization as introduced and I don't know if I like how the standard/default looks now.

That sounds great 🙈

My MySpace was a mess, but it was my mess 😝

I want a virtual pet that walks and climbs around my app. I want to be able to feed him and knock him off if I’m annoyed 😂😂😂

I don't know what it is but iOS 18 as a whole just looks messy to me. I realize you can make things look as gauntly (or not) as you want and it's still a beta and all, but Android's customization options look genuinely a lot more polished than this. Beyond that Apple just keeps piling up these new things onto what used to be iOS 7's clear, simple and no nonsense interface. It's like a public building that's continuously being expanded throughout the years to accommodate new needs while the big picture - the building as a whole - is lost. iOS feels overdue for a full renovation of its interface. Even Apple seems to acknowledge that things in iOS have become so complex and unclear users need an AI to help work out its features.

Also, just about every part of the interface seems to trigger something. Especially because of how these customization options are accessed. It's annoying as hell sometimes.
This……

It’s not the new customization options. There’s no unifying design. The design elements have become so disjointed. The icons are square but control center are round. The action button menu is completely different than any other settings menu. It’s like each Apple design team never speaks with the other design team and now it’s just all these random parts thrown together.

I just want the option to turn the clock off entirely, the way we have the option with the other widgets. Same for the shortcuts at the bottom, I hope "none" is an option.
^^^^ ✅ 💯% THIS ^^^^

Glad I’m not the only one!

What are you talking about? You can enter hex for any color on the lockscreen clock/widgets

Does that mean you can set the clock to, say, black, so that it disappears against a wallpaper that is black in that area? Will the date still be there, though?

Most times I do not need — or want — to know what time it is, especially in the middle of the night.

There should really be a toggle. Date—on or off. Time— on or off.

As to the Home Screen, would love to see real customization — e.g., choice of interfaces, so that we could set up a tabbed interface with a user-defined category list with different colors and appropriate icons down the left-hand side (or right)— notes, games, books, space, utilities, etc. — a la ZLauncher from the old Palm days. Drag and drop icons, one tap instant availability, one tap switching.

It was the zenith of easy to use, user friendly, design for app screen organization.

I really thought that with how different the action button menu was, maybe it was a sign of design changes to come. Wrong on that one 😂

You can pick any color combination between the wallpaper and text. This was already available in iOS 17 too, if I'm not mistaken. The only missing customization is independent colors between the clock and widgets. This new rainbow text is the only option independent of widgets so far. You also can't change the control colors.
