There should definitely be a 'screenshots' category so if you take a snap of train times, etc, you can easily get to them all and delete them. Or does that exist?
There is 🤷‍♂️

Seems like a strange understanding of "deleted". If I delete something, I want it to be gone. To prevent accidental deletion, there could be a one minute delay or whatever time you specify.
If you don't like the default delay, you can go in and delete it for good.

It also feels creepy if an AI "understands" the content of your photos, because AI feels more and more like it has a mind. Do you really want an AI to see all your adult content?
So switch it off, if you don't want it. It's on device, though.

And will that AI still protect your privacy if their is something illegal on your photos or in your files? Imagine an AI comes to the conclusion that you pose a threat to others, even if that is not true. Will it inform the authorities? If the AI can read receipts, it might find a certain combination of items that can be used to do something bad.
It's on device. The rest of your comment is speculation about the future. The answer also no.

Just think about the scandal a few years ago when Apple searched the photos in the cloud for child abuse.
All cloud providers do this, and the scandal wasn't about that, but about moving that scanning locally, to enable a (slightly) higher degree of privacy. Of course, like with things like nuclear energy, feelings kicked in, and.. yeah.

Honest question. Is it / Will it be possible to hide screenshots / pictures taken from screens? I have plenty of screenshots polluting my library plus some pictures of screens (usually when I’m gaming and am too lazy to alt+tab). Google photos does a pretty good job at detecting both types and archiving them for me, but I’d love if the built in photo app could do the same.

My biggest feature request would be smart albums on iOS and iPadOS, including syncing via iCloud. It is quite insane, that my M4 iPad probably has more CPU power than my 2020 iMac, but I can not create or even view smart albums on the iPad. Makes this feature quite useless.

All in all I think the whole Photos App ist a big mess and very laborious to use, way to much user interactions to e.g. edit an image and no keyboard shortcuts for the individual edits. Is use it just as a front-end to iCloud photos.

But Photos like most other Apple apps will randomly reset your last view to its default view.

I just want a feature to filter out photos from your library based on location. That way work photos can hide away in a separate album.

Photos app needs a ‘memo mode’ for photos that only taken to remember something, it would work like favourites but put the pictures into a separate folder to not be mixed in with general photos.

I found a way to crash Photos app:

In pinned collections edit menu, drag any favorited item to the bottom of your favorited items. Instant crash.

I would love a "similar" utility. Now that Gemini is mostly 💩 I need a replacement.

Yes please! and the ability (option) to keep say the last 10GB of video local
If they implemented this, then I would consider using photo library. Currently I take a lot of large videos for YouTube… And I don’t want 20 GB of video being synchronized up into the cloud. They are just temporarily on my phone until I can edit them later.

I could tolerate the lack of organizational capabilities in Photos before, but this redesign is beyond usable for me.

Tim, I just want folders. Let me have folders. Please.
Yes, please!

I would love to move a photo out of the main view and into a separate folder. Then this photo is no longer visible anywhere else except for that one folder.

How do we not have this already???

It’s so lame that when you put a photo into an album, then it’s still visible in the main camera roll. No file system works like this…. Extremely counterintuitive.

I would really like a way of been able to remove an object out of a photo, without the need to have to install a third party app such as TouchRetouch which is virtually unusable unless you pay a subscription. Come on Apple this is iOS 18, this should have been a feature in the Photos app by now.

I just hope there’s still a “recently added” section as that is the one that currently replicates the classic iOS Camera Roll experience
I hope so too. Never used the "Library" section of the photos app, I always just go to my camera roll, because I have no clue what date the images I add have, so I just want them sorted by added date.

I’d love a way to move a photo out of the recents so it only resides in an album. Why can’t this be done? What black magic is required??

Version 10 (*TEN*!!) of the Photos app and you still can't see Smart Albums you create on your Mac. Unbelievable.

Especially when you consider that all those new Utilities categories are essentially just... Smart Albums
