I've fully charged up my phone and I think it's ready for iOS 18. 🤡

I’m still in the left column, when I get in the bottom right column it’s time for a new device.

Having moved from the 11 Pro to the 15 Pro, I can say absolutely for me, this is not true. I bought the 15 Pro for USB-C and hopes of new device improvements. Other than cable convenience, I have noticed no improvements. Given how slowly it focuses in certain situations, if anything it has been a downgrade.

The iterations are so tiny now that setting up a new device and swapping app logins (e.g. banking) it is a chore more than an excitement.

Apple's long-term software support for old devices is really great, and should set the standard for all companies.
For mobile devices maybe, but for Mac’s it is definitely not. At my work, we are constantly disposing of perfectly working Mac’s just because Apple has decided they no longer deserve security updates.

99% of the features have no need or purpose for - I simply use SMS / calls / some random photos / don’t use Siri and not interested in AI / don’t use emoji’s / don’t use FaceTime / don’t use Siri / use notes for general note taking / safari or chrome for web browsing / and of course phone calls - for the new models only interested in larger max screen / larger battery / WiFi 7 - the rest is of no use to me.

If I really want to do photography I turn to my trust Canon 5D Mark IV DSL - no camera phone will beat it and all the “megapixel” marketing is false and misleading as indicated here:

Do you guys usually just update for new release or format the device and start from scratch
Always a clean install for a major release. Many posters have commented over the years how performance is noticeably improved, and errors materially reduced, with a clean install.

Update. Although I am tempted with my next iPhone to setup as new instead of transfer/restore from backup. I have an account I think was from Facebook integration days that I can't remove :(

I just had to confirm new "Terms and Conditions" for iCloud on my iPhone with iOS 18 RC after turning off Airplane Mode. Got the same last week on macOS 15.1 beta.

Well I am texting people from Australia or Mexico. It would be helpful to have a 3rd color to make sure I am not sending them an expensive SMS by mistake

Just turn off MMS. Simple Text messages are not really expensive.

The "Send as Text message" setting is sadly only for iMessage.

One sms may only be 29 cent but still more than 0 😉

Yes, more or less, it's depending from the provider and contract. But seems there is no other solution.

I am using the Messages App only for some family members and friends who also have an iPhone or for receiving SMS codes. Everything else is done on Threema, Telegram and soon more on Session and a Matrix Client.

Sometimes SMS to foreign countries are even cheaper than national one. At least in Germany.

Can't find what an SMS would cost me to those countries. I just see 0,09€/SMS EU-wide and that's a prepaid card without any monthly fee.

Edit: Just found it, it's 0,19€ worldwide.
