Siri: Am I joke to you?
Me-- You're a pistol, you're really funny. You're really funny.

Siri-- What do you mean I'm funny?

Me-- It's funny, you know. It's a good story, it's funny, you're a funny guy.

[laughs]

Siri- What do you mean, you mean the way I talk? What?

Me-- It's just, you know. You're just funny, it's... funny, you know the way you tell the story and everything.

Siri-- [it becomes quiet] Funny how? What's funny about it?

Me-- Tommy no, you got it all wrong.

Siri-- Oh, oh, Anthony. He's a big boy, he knows what he said. What did ya say? Funny how?

I really like how Google implemented AI scam detection on a phone call but i DO NOT want this to be sent to servers for it. It has to be on device.

I get a crap ton. I personally don’t want any Ai Features because I find it dumb but yes as someone who actively uses social media regularly I have plenty of notifications

Wait so, the summary feature would probably be pretty useful to you, but you don't like it because AI bad? Help me understand!

In theory yes. I never said Ai was bad. I said it was dumb lol. I am sure I can find a use for all these Ai features but much like Siri/cortana/alexa/google Gemini etc etc, I have really no need or want for these features and if given the chance, like rcs, I’m disabling the features.

It’s why Siri doesn’t bother me. Outside of me telling her to set an alarm I find Siri useless. Not because of her lack of features. But simply because I find it stupid to talk to my phone and these AI features I’m sure will be useful but at the same time I can do without

Ah I see. I'm really sick of the conflation of AI = talking to a bot/phone/whatever. Not your fault, more so the media's / OpenAI's / Google / Microsoft.

AI does not have to be a chatbot, or something you speak to, or something you need to change how you use your phone for. It can just work silently in the background, summarizing spam emails and group chats. Ideally, we wouldn't have to interact with it to get the benefits.

I would expect Apple to provide a lot of their AI as embedded hidden various digital assistants that can somewhat automate parts of the OS functionality such as making the iPhone operation more hands free when you are mobile. Still it would be great to use a digital assistant as a Word Problems Calculator on a iPhone. Imagine the possibilities with that during the day if implemented well for business usage?

Only if they can monetize it. That’s the reason Siri hadn’t been fixed before, long before this. There was no money in it.
If it gets more people on Fitness+, I'd say that's a win for them monetarily. As long as they don't increase subscription costs because of it, I think the customers will be happy as well.

wtf. I don’t need things summarized lol.

I just want Siri to understand wtf I’m saying. understand how I talk, understand the music I listen to and understand what I look up / like to do.

Not going to pre-judge AI
What added value will it have for me on an iPhone remains to be seen

Agreed. That’s a very clever solution that would benefit many, especially the elderly. I seriously doubt Google will do it on device though…Apple would.

Whatever the new big functions are, they will require the latest CPU to run. I knew it

I hope they won't use the phrase "AI", because this isn't AI.
Please define AI for us.

Because this looks like the kinds of things that AI is being used to do. I don't expect that this is all that will be done. This is just a early rumor of somethings that Gurman heard about.

If privacy is not the reason then why is it when google implement this kind of stuff is so much superior than Apple’s effort all the time
Google Assistant is better than Siri but not by much. All of that generation of assistants were very limited and not at all flexible. The upcoming generation of LLM-backed assistants will leave those earlier attempts in the dust.

And... if my notifications are off will they also turn off the "AI" wasting battery?

Will the "AI" even let me turn off notifications?

I get nearly 800+ a day due to work. Usually none are even relevant to me.

Usually you can reduce them a lot by limiting the reasons for notifications and the list of people you want to be notified of. For example only when a "close friend" messages you. Only for very important notifications you should hear a sound and the most important people to you should get their own sound. Then you immediately know when your wife, kid or boss message you.

Google assistant is so much better than Siri & that’s a FACT
Some of googles products are far superior than Apple’s equivalent & that comes down to privacy nothing else

If I ask Siri to "switch to Audible and start playing Preceptor" it just has no idea what to do. It will switch to the Audible app and then sit there like a dummy on whatever book I am currently listening to. Every now and then I ask Siri to do this or that and most of the time it just doesn't work.
