iOS 19 is still around three months away from being unveiled, but there are plenty of rumors about the upcoming update.

Below, we recap iOS 19 rumors so far.

Redesigned Camera App

A leak earlier this year allegedly revealed a redesigned Camera app coming with iOS 19.

On his YouTube channel Front Page Tech in January, Jon Prosser shared a video showing what the new Camera app will apparently look like, with the key change being translucent menus for camera controls. Overall, the design of these menus looks similar to visionOS, the software platform for Apple's Vision Pro headset.

More of the camera's viewfinder is visible compared to iOS 18. The camera controls are split into Photo and Video categories at the bottom of the app.

The camera controls include options for recording spatial video, turning on a timer for a photo, and more. Additional controls for video resolution and frame rate pop over at the top of the screen as necessary, according to the video.

It is unclear if the alleged visionOS-like design changes will extend to other parts of the iOS 19 interface, or to more of Apple's built-in apps.

It was previously rumored that iOS 18 would feature visionOS-like design changes, but that never happened. Perhaps the changes were for iOS 19 all along.

More ChatGPT-Like Siri

iOS 19 will introduce a "more conversational Siri" powered by "more advanced large language models," according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. This will make Siri more like ChatGPT, allowing the assistant to "handle more sophisticated requests."

Apple will likely preview the revamped Siri during its iOS 19 announcement, but Gurman said it will not be available until as early as spring 2026. That suggests the feature will be released as part of iOS 19.4 in March or April next year.

In the meantime, iOS 18.2 added ChatGPT integration to Siri, and Google Gemini integration should follow in a later update. And with iOS 18.4 or iOS 18.5, Siri will gain on-screen awareness, understanding of personal context, deeper per-app controls, and other upgrades.

Update: Gurman has since said that the more conversational Siri has been delayed, possibly until iOS 20.

Staggered Features

A large number of new features coming with iOS 19 are expected to roll out in later versions, ranging from iOS 19.1 through iOS 19.4.

Compatible iPhones

According to French website iPhoneSoft.fr, iOS 19 will be compatible with any iPhone that is capable of running iOS 18, which would mean the following models:

  • iPhone 16e
  • iPhone 16
  • iPhone 16 Plus
  • iPhone 16 Pro
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15
  • iPhone 15 Plus
  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14
  • iPhone 14 Plus
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 mini
  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation or later)
The oldest devices in that list are the iPhone XS, iPhone XS, and iPhone XR, all of which were released in September 2018.

Of course, some iOS 19 features will be unavailable on older iPhone models.

If this report is accurate, it would be the second year in a row in which Apple did not drop support for any iPhone models with its major annual iOS release. iOS 18 is compatible with the same iPhone models as iOS 17 is.

iOS 17 dropped support for the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X.

Timing

The first iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 betas should be released during WWDC 2025 in June, and the updates are likely to be released in September.

So conversational Siri, which was supposed to be debuting on iOS 18, will instead be coming with iOS 19, but not at launch. You gotta wait six months AFTER launch.
At what point does Apple’s software team just outright admit it doesn’t have a clue what it is doing now?

things I've wanted for yEaRs:
- apps automatically updating when the update is released and not 20 years later
- mails to sync faster in the background
- solve the 3 millions bugs in the Phone app

3 simple things that would improve the experience a lot

We had automatic updates before but after they reached billions of users they stopped updating automatically. It’s simple, they are not to let you overload their servers by pushing the update automatically for everyone. Also, this is not apple’s decision, is the developers choice.

I feel like iOS18 was deployed as if it was a Steam early access title.

I do like the option to adjust camera resolution right from the camera app. It takes me forever to find it in Settings and the search field gives such verbose results. Hopefully they’ll fix that as well.

Funny enough the Siri interface we had before, that was fullscreen, was way better to handle stuff like the ChatGPT integration. You could go back and read all your previous requests in that conversation. Now, each time you say something new, the answer gets replaced and one tap too many and you accidentally close the UI. I think it's time to back to the old Siri UI with speech bubbles for a more natural way to interact.

Don’t forget the iPhone 16e. Or have you forgotten about it already? 😜

So, would you rather that Apple delay releasing a new feature until every new feature is finished? All that does for you is push everything back half a year.

It's funny how people complain about everything. Either it's "Apple should upgrade individual apps throughout the year instead of one big annual upgrade" and then when Apple holds a WWDC which shows what the upgrade roadmap will be for the year with various things being upgraded throughout, people complain that they have to wait for those individual things.

The truth is, I regret that my 16 Plus came with iOS18 already installed. I wish I could have held up updates at the final version of iOS17. As it is, I think I’m going to stop with the final version of iOS18 and leave it there for quite some time. With AI turned off, of course.

So chat GPT-like Siri available ALREADY in iOS 19? Ain’t that too early? They should take some time to polish it, do not rush it!

I can't tell if this is sarcasm, but...

It really doesn't take much to develop a ChatGPT-like service. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of infrastructure to build out and it's not a trivial undertaking, but it's not like as if the research hasn't already been done and published.

This is why it's always been funny when people complain about how far behind Apple is compared to ChatGPT, Copilot, etc... They're comparing Siri which is pretty much a 13 year old technology to current LLMs as if it's going to take Apple 13 years to get there, when in reality all they need to build out and implement from current research on hardware that on the client-side is top-notch. Again, not to understate the effort involved, but it's far from 13 years of catch up.

Just want to point out how impressive it is that it’s still supporting the XR. If that’s true, it wouldn’t be until the iPhone 18 year’s iOS until it quits getting updates. That is ridiculously impressive and is more evidence that iOS as a whole is fully matured.

I’m using an iPhone 11….i can’t even imagine this phone being usable that far out.
