Let’s get live translation of all content the camera sees (in all the languages Google already supports for years), let’s get 10x optical zooming and 100x stabilized digital-zooming, advanced AI compositing options, options to enable useful AI upscaling, fully spherical panoramas, live panoramas, immersive 3D scanned/splatted environments, etc. etc., there’s a TON OF CAMERA IMPROVEMENTS but if all we get are translucent menus it’ll be such a damned waste. Innovation is only as dead as Apple makes it.

Safari design is relatively clean and useful compared to the other IOS browsers.
Photos redesign wasn’t so good but when you get rid of some options and customize it for yourself it’s ok. Don’t see any issue with system settings. That’s the same good or bad since years.
You're right that the safari design is better. That's because they undid the proposed update so it remained mostly the same. That's how disastrous the proposed design was

System settings is horrible design. They took a bloated screen of icons and turned it into an even more bloated list of icons, adding vertical scrolling to the mix on a computer monitor where we don't benefit from the more efficient use of space.

You can't resize the window horizontally

Settings are possibly harder to find now

If you have to use Search to find the setting, apple failed

I just don't see Apple catching up in terms of AI anytime soon. They are so far behind, and even when using Siri to talk to chatGPT, it's so much worse than just using chatGPT. It often somehow screws up what I'm talking about when it sends it over, or for followup questions, it sends it to chatGPT completely out of context, almost as if I opened a new chat in the app instead of a continuous stream of consciousness in the same chat window.

And don't even get me started on some of the weird summaries I've gotten. Even in Messages, completely mischaracterizing an entire series of texts to basically say the opposite of what was being purported. I wish I had taken screenshots.

As much as I hate sending data to the cloud and prefer on-device processing, I just don't see our mobile devices keeping up with the way AI is scaling.

As for the new look of iOS, I think most people saw that coming. I just hope they don't do it for only some apps. iOS has already been getting a bit disjointed in recent years, and that would only muddy the waters. They need to whole-ass a redesign if they're gonna do it. I would love a year where there are no new features and all they do is fix bugs and update the UI to be more modern. But I know they have an entire AI division now, so sure let them do their work in the background if they must. Just don't let it be at the expense of tidying up the OS on both the front-end and back-end.

Would like to see Siri improve. Staggered release of features is something that has been happening for some time now. Expecting all the features announced at WWDC this year to be available only around 2 to 3 months before next years WWDC.

Will be great if iPhone 11 series gets the update.

Future Apple products or software don’t excite me anymore. It’s not really meant to be a negative post, it’s just the truth. I thought this whole Apple Intelligence thing was the beginning of a new Siri. Meanwhile, they are releasing products like the HomePod within a year of release that are already incompatible with the latest software also series just as dumb, if not dumber than ever. Now, Siri… That’s one thing I fully intend on being negative about. An absolute joke.

Not installing iOS19 on my SE 2020, even 18 was a mistake, the slowdown is significant and I need to reboot it every couple days. 17 was solid.

A redesigned camera app makes sense; having to select a capture mode by horizontally scrolling through what has become a large list is not great.

I also sincerely hope for a new wallet UI. It’s really stupid they kept the current UI for so long, where cards are obscured and only reveal themselves by having to toss them around vertically.
I just want a grid view AND I need to be able to name these cards and add little colored tags to them. I have 4 cards with the same design and the number Apple associates to these cards don’t match with the numbers on my cards, making it very hard for me to see if I’m about to pay with a personal or corporate card.

We need a “snow leopard” style release.
I don’t agree with that. Because Apple is already far behind. What I do agree on is that I definitely need a stable upgrade will all the bells and whistles working properly.

It used to be the mantra of many Apple defenders here: “it just works”

Siri, HomeKit and many, many bugs.

I wonder if these improvements to Siri will include a more natural sounding voice. Or more variety in the options for voice and accent. (And attitude? Will I be able to set Siri to be sassy, or morose?)

It was CFed that missed the boat, according to popular stories. Apparently he tried ChatGPT well after it was publicly available and was like "oh hey, maybe Siri isn't as great as I thought" and basically didn't start until that moment.

Federighi testet generative AI in december 2022, less than a month after the public release of ChatGPT. And I'm pretty sure his focus wasn't too improve Siri at all.

It's very strange how so many who are negative towards Apple, are so concerned about Siri.

It’s not strange. I criticize because I use their products and want them to be better. I’m concerned about Siri because it’s a big part of their operating systems.

So, how many times a day do you use Siri?

Personally, my median usage is zero.

Really hoping the new camera app adds a mode for zero-AI or low-AI photos, something more like Halide.

A lot actually for the two things it does semi-reliably, timers and reminders. Like 3-5 times a day on average. I would use it more if it would work better.

iOS 19 is still around six months away from being unveiled, but rumors about the upcoming software update are already starting to stack up.

Below, we recap iOS 19 rumors so far.

Redesigned Camera App

A new leak has allegedly revealed a redesigned Camera app coming with iOS 19.

On his YouTube channel Front Page Tech this week, Jon Prosser shared a video showing what the new Camera app will apparently look like, with the key change being translucent menus for camera controls. Overall, the design of these menus looks similar to visionOS, the software platform for Apple's Vision Pro headset.

More of the camera's viewfinder is visible compared to iOS 18. The camera controls are split into Photo and Video categories at the bottom of the app.

The camera controls include options for recording spatial video, turning on a timer for a photo, and more. Additional controls for video resolution and frame rate pop over at the top of the screen as necessary, according to the video.

It is unclear if the alleged visionOS-like design changes will extend to other parts of the iOS 19 interface, or to more of Apple's built-in apps.

It was previously rumored that iOS 18 would feature visionOS-like design changes, but that never happened. Perhaps the changes were for iOS 19 all along.

More ChatGPT-Like Siri

iOS 19 will introduce a "more conversational Siri" powered by "more advanced large language models," according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. This will make Siri more like ChatGPT, allowing the assistant to "handle more sophisticated requests."

iOS-19-Roundup-Feature.jpg

Apple will likely preview the revamped Siri during its iOS 19 announcement, but Gurman said it will not be available until as early as spring 2026. That suggests the feature will be released as part of iOS 19.4 in March or April next year.

In the meantime, iOS 18.2 added ChatGPT integration to Siri, and Gurman expects an integration with Google's Gemini to follow in a later update. And with iOS 18.4, Siri will gain on-screen awareness, understanding of personal context, deeper per-app controls, and other upgrades. Just don't expect Siri to become truly like ChatGPT until next year.

Staggered Features

A large number of new features coming with iOS 19 are expected to roll out in later versions, ranging from iOS 19.1 through iOS 19.4.

Compatible iPhones

According to French website iPhoneSoft.fr, iOS 19 will be compatible with any iPhone that is capable of running iOS 18, which would mean the following models:

  • iPhone 16
  • iPhone 16 Plus
  • iPhone 16 Pro
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15
  • iPhone 15 Plus
  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14
  • iPhone 14 Plus
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 mini
  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation or later)
The oldest devices in that list are the iPhone XS, iPhone XS, and iPhone XR, all of which were released in September 2018.

Of course, some iOS 19 features will be unavailable on older iPhone models.

If this report is accurate, it would be the second year in a row in which Apple did not drop support for any iPhone models with its major annual iOS release. iOS 18 is compatible with the same iPhone models as iOS 17 is.

iOS 17 dropped support for the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X.

Timing

The first iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 betas should be released during WWDC 2025 in June, and the updates are likely to be released in September.

From a UI/UX perspective, it makes no sense they would adopt any of the transparent glossy vibe on IOS. It was designed that way for obvious aesthetic reasons when it comes to the Vision Pro. Not necessary on the iPhone or iPad or Mac at all…

We used to have major hardware improvements and additions every year. The new software all used to be exciting. Now, it just seems like they play it safe and it's basically just become the same thing year after year. I think the last iPhone I was genuinely excited about was the 12 mini.

I use Siri a lot for home control, but I think that's all it's good for, for me personally.

I am very concerned about Siri because essentially it is the face of Apple. It is on absolutely every device that Apple makes with the exception of AirPods and AirTags. Therefore, it should be absolutely beyond reproach. It isn’t just the fact that they keep coming up with new Siri voices when that money and expertise should’ve been going towards functionality. What’s wrong with the robot sounding like a robot? These natural sounding voices will come back to bite us in the butt one day.
It’s just that as a lady in her 70s I’d like to see something that is useful to me and not voice that sounds like my own. Frankly, something like the Google trick of being able to tell me where I left my glasses!😂
