Yay!!! I’m so excited to start the speculation going! I’ve been working on an iOS 19 wishlist! 👍🏻. So far, each time I’ve put together a wishlist I’ve gotten at least a few things off of them! 👍🏻

~106 days!!!

Edit: I am hoping for Siri to become a full on LLM. And landscape Home Screen is a hill I am willing to die on so I will still wish for it even though it’s almost guaranteed not to happen.

I’ve been working on an iPadOS 19 wishlist, and this is what I have so far! 👍🏻. Some of these apply to iOS 19 as well, so I may post a separate iOS 19 wishlist as well. They are not listed in level of which I want most or anything, and some are kind of just throwaway ones I don’t think will be as likely to be included, but are ones that I’ve seen others mention, so decided to include them anyways:

  • Ability to pin files, photos, notes, folders, etc. to the Home Screen. This currently can be done with Siri Shortcuts, but a simpler “Add to Home Screen” option like the one that appears for web pages in Safari for these file types, and a proper system icon for them would be nice.
  • JIT entitlements for emulators and secure hypervisor APIs for virtual machine apps. (Not so sure this would be coming, and I don’t really need it, but thought I’d throw it in there since some people mention it).
  • AirPlay Receiver that works with more than just the Surface Pro so I can AirPlay screen mirror from iPhone to iPad.
  • iPhone Mirroring similar to the macOS Sequoia feature. It would likely be implemented a bit differently, but could offer an adjustable app window that could be full-screened with black padding to either side of the phone screen mirroring session, or could be reduced down to a smaller app window about the size of the iPhone itself.
  • Perhaps iPad Mirroring as well, or ability to use iPad as second display for another iPad similar to SideCar.
  • Window snapping/tiling in Stage Manager on iPadOS similar to the snapping/tiling feature in macOS Sequoia.
  • Control Center and Notification Center appear on external monitor with Stage Manager.
  • Control Center compact widgets. Add Lockscreen widgets in Control Center.
  • Ability to customize App Library with ability to create folders, and choose what folders apps are in. Automatic option would still be in place for those who don’t want to mess with it.
  • Eject external drive button in Files app. It would reduce confusion moving between macOS which requires ejecting drives, and iPadOS. It would also allow for external drives using high performance mode.
  • Disc Repair and First Aid options from Disc Utility incorporated into Files app on iPadOS (or a separate Disc Utility app, though I think the chance of a separate Disc Utility app rather than incorporating it in Files is pretty low).
  • Some more macOS apps ported to iPad like especially Font Book, maybe an Activity Monitor, etc. And newer iPhone apps like Journal ported over to iPad.
  • Access iCloud Photo library through Files app. (Though I’ve noticed that I don’t think it is possible anymore even on macOS Sequoia to do this, so I don’t know if it would come to iPadOS, and I don’t really need it for my purposes).
  • Additional Privacy & Security options such as Screen & System Audio Recording.
  • Smart Folders in apps that support them on Mac like Files, Mail, etc. These would make sense with Apple Intelligence.
  • Multiple simultaneous audio streams
  • Easier porting of Mac apps to iPadOS, and/or ability to run Mac apps on iPadOS natively. (I don’t need it, but some mention it often, and I think it could make sense).
  • Color tags in Notes for organizing notes.
  • Better breakdown of iPad storage usage in Settings app.
  • LLM Siri
  • Some other Apple Intelligence improvements
  • More system utility apps accessible via the Control Center similar to the Print Center app.
  • Ability to see Home Screen Widgets in Stage Manager on iPad, grayed out similar to macOS.
  • More improvements to Game Porting Toolkit, and perhaps add an emulator system that allows us to run Windows and/or Mac games via emulation on iPad and recent iPhones with higher specs.
  • Integration of SlideOver with Stage Manager.

Wow, such negativity. Apple will likely never charge a subscription for Apple Intelligence.

All I want are improvements to the notification system. Android has been around for like 15 years - we won't make fun of you for copying some stuff, Tim! I promise!

I really don’t get this. Notifications on iOS are great. What’s the big “improvement” with Android’s notifications? If you’re referring to the way Android crams notifications and control toggles into one UI element, I actually really don’t prefer that. I am glad that the Control Center is separate from the Notification Center.

It's something you have to try for yourself. The grouping, the actionability, the way they can update dynamically, it just feels a whole lot nicer. They're faster to act on and faster to triage.

I don't care about them being combined with quick settings.

iOS notifications are fine. Doesn't mean it's impossible for them to get better.

I have tried notifications on Android before. I didn’t really notice a difference, but I guess that’s me… I don’t think it’s impossible for iOS Notifications to get better, but I really would rather other features and improvements more than that. Again, that’s just my opinion. 👍🏻

I would say they will do that eventually at some point- right now everyone waits for the first company to charge for its ai features - no one wants to be the first, but someone will at some point, and if that has started, I think Apple will do charge for that too.

It’s just machine code that is part of macOS. Does windows 11 charge anything, nope. So there is no desperation for doing that. Some applications perhaps say a suite, maybe.

Exactly, and Apple already can monetize with Apple Intelligence without charging a thing, and without collecting user data either. With the Apple Intelligence Extensions system, they can charge AI services, or collect a commission for sales of their services through the Extensions framework. This is already the case with ChatGPT integration.

That’s a function of the way you utilize your iPhone model. There are many tweaks that you can do instead of relying on system defaults to conserve your battery usage.
Exactly, I would rather not have an update that’s only focused on battery and bug fixes. That would be an incredibly boring year…

Would love it Apple had the balls to say "Were stopping this idiotic new iOS release every year, iOS 18 will live on to at least 2027 and if we feel we have a pile of amazing things to share....we might release a iOS 19"

Apple really should look at MS in this case and stop the whole yearly OS release cycle that makes fully functional devices go EOL (no updates) quicker than they deserve.

No, just no. That would be about the worst thing Apple could possibly do. Many of us actually like the yearly update cycle. There’s nothing idiotic about actually providing new features and a new software version every year. And no, Microsoft isn’t a good example on anything. I absolutely hate whenever I have to use Windows or handle any Microsoft software, I hope Apple correctly doesn’t “look to Microsoft” in any case because they’re a very bad example…
