Apple has changed how you dismiss iPhone alarms in iOS 26.1, and your morning muscle memory may have needed tweaking as a result. By default, the Clock app now requires a slide gesture to stop an alarm from the Lock Screen, replacing the previous tap-to-stop button that was redesigned in iOS 26. Snoozing still works with a simple tap, but turning off an alarm entirely demands the extra swipe motion.

The change appears designed to prevent accidental dismissals when you're reaching for your phone in the morning. By requiring a more deliberate action, you're less likely to silence your alarm when you meant to hit snooze. If you don't like the change, you can revert the alarm interface back to the previous Stop button by following these steps.
  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Accessibility.
  3. Under "Physical and Motor," tap Touch.
  4. Swipe to the bottom of the menu and toggle on Prefer Single-Touch Actions.
The change will take effect the next time you set an alarm. If you want to revert back to the slider, simply toggle off Prefer Single-Touch Actions.

slide to stop is a much better option requiring deliberate though on what you are doing.
yes, harder to do than tap.
yes, maybe require some relearning.

but also reducing the number of taps that miss waking you up ;)

Shame they didn't think to also include this feature in Standby mode...the feature I use for my alarm clock at night. As I discovered when I overslept yesterday  I don't know what possessed them to think that making the buttons the same size and placing them right next to each other was a good design decision.

But the slide to stop is not there when an alarm sounds in Standby mode ie. when my phone is acting as an alarm clock next to the bed, nor when the same alarm is triggered on my Apple Watch. What happened to OS 26 being consistent across platforms? 🤷‍♂️

LOL - MacMonkee beat me to it ;)

It takes a weak person to have to rely on snooze. Why not just set your alarm for a few minutes later and get up when it goes off? Ahh, I forgot about alcohol and drugs.

Me, I just want the damn thing off. I have no use for the slider.

Oh wow. The ui that i first see when i wake up late has changed! How nice is that!

They broke alarms for the last few years! Alarm does not alarms!

You are assuming that everyone wants the snooze option.

sure, if you sleep all alone, then just get up and at it.

when waking up with my sweetie, it's nice to snuggle and snooze for a bit before starting the day.

God, apple really sucks sometimes. Stop changing the things we’re used to just to have something ‘new’. This is why i also can’t stand Microsoft and Adobe

Slider wins, I can now tap the screen without seeing it and once it goes quiet knowing I hit the right button.

Here's a genius idea...how about letting people have two options to choose from:

Option 1: Tap to stop the alarm
Option 2: Slide to stop the alarm

Really, really tough stuff to figure out here!

I updated both my watch and my phone to 21 and for some reason the alarm remains as it was. I didn’t even do the accessibility thing. That and some weird glitches on the iPad when trying to search emails, and the fact that spotlight on Tahoe doesn’t search files on my computer (the only thing I need it to do) makes me think that this is a really buggy and poorly constructed version of the OS

I like Liquid Glass though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Good tip. Would like this on a per-app basis so I can slide to stop an alarm (when sleepy) but press to stop a timer (when more alert, no pun intended).

Right!? I just get up when my alarm goes off. I'd have to do some research again, but if I remember correctly, studies have shown that hitting the snooze typically ends up being counter productive over waking up when your alarm goes off the first time.

I noticed that in Standby mode when the phone is turned horizontal, it's still tap to turn off
