it could be in the 26.6/June 2026 release or never lol
I strongly suspect it will during the initial realese of iOS 2030 following the latest naming convention change with iOS 29 still getting updates. Given, naturally, that 2030 will be ridden with bugs, new 4-D UI, and an obscure message from Apple hinting not to (please 🙏🏻) too soon.

So the digital passport can not be used for international travel where you need a passport, but maybe used for domestic travel where you don't need a passport. Sounds really useful.
I wonder if the embassies will take it for citizenship/identity verification for when someone loses their passport abroad.

Does anyone here know with 100% certainty whether or not there is any chance an agent manning the TSA checkpoints will ever ask someone using a Digital ID to briefly hand the phone over to that agent to be looked at and/or scanned?
I assume it'll be like boarding passes in the phones wallet that so many use now. I've never had an issue. Also note that double clicking the side button to open the wallet does not unlock the phone.

Interesting on the Passport..."Apple says it is not a replacement for a physical passport, and it cannot be used for international travel and border crossing purposes." Last time I checked, a passport's main purpose is for international travel and border crossing...
I've used a passport for all travel for a long time. Makes everything simpler.

Waiting to see how good the personalized Siri will be. Good to know about the new emojis. Like the treasure chest one. RCS improvements are very welcome.

Stop with the dang emoji already. Nobody is asking for this. Do they not have anything to improve so they have to throw in a new emoji to say there's something new? Annoying
Apple doesn't make the emojis, they are a standard and Android also adds them. What's annoying is people trying to make a big deal about emojis when you can just not open the emoji panel.

No, they won’t

They won’t even take digital drivers license at car rentals
What a car rental company requires has little bearing on what the consulate requires to replace a lost or stolen passport. Rental car companies typically won't take a photocopy of a passport, but having that absolutely speeds up the replacement process at the consulate.

But seriously, if only Apple focused more on fixing bugs, even from prior years, instead of pointless features or reworking animations etc.

That's not possible, because it's not worth an article.
You can see it here: every day there's an article about what's new, will be new, or could be new.
When Macrumors does mention bugs, they are either dismissed as hate or as isolated cases that shouldn't prevent anyone from trying out the new system.

So in a way, Apple's stance is understandable.
Fixing bugs is not rewarded, but the company is immediately criticized if it doesn't bring out something new.

As a user, I would be happy if the only new thing was bug fixes.
But when I put myself in Apple's shoes, I understand why bug fixes are the last thing the company is interested in.
For that to happen, the "fourth power in the country" would first have to change its mindset.

All software has bugs, you don't need to blame the media for not focusing on something that will always exist.

Apple fixes bugs but it will never be bug free cause nothing is.

Jeez, just make our OS’ run smooth then focus on the bad joke that is Siri. The emoji stuff is a sign Apple are losing the plot - they promote so much fluff now that core users don’t care for or use…

No innovation at all.

I'm seriously thinking moving to the Pixel Android phone...

And what about adding the one tap answering calls feature instead of the slide to answer calls?

Bad enough when people use that word for every annual release, but now they do it for point releases even.

What innovative features did Android announce on the roadmap that is making you want to switch?

I'm looking forward to the RCS upgrade and I wish they include new cities for transit cards and countries outside US for ID in wallet

You can still use the digital passport (as I have used regular digital drivers licenses) to get through TSA, but you will still need the physical passport book to get onto the flight itself. This is still important, because the TSA line is the place where you are most hectic, so keep the book put away until you get to your gate, sit down, and pull it out then. This prevents the passport from getting lost, or stolen. So yes, this is still quite a useful feature.
You only need the physical passport for international flights, so a digital ID that works even for those of us in states without digital drivers licenses would mean no pulling your passport (or drivers license) out at all when flying domestically. Because as you say airports can be hectic and one less thing that can go wrong is better.

At least Android focuses less on emojies and more on the overall Android itself.

And I still believe that Apple is more of a fashion brand than a true innovative tech company.
