I wish iOS wouldn't manipulate the Settings list seconds after it's been open.

Apart from the Local Capture issue above, in the main list if you scroll quickly down in order to click "Apps", there's a good chance that just as you click on it, it shifts down so that "Wallet & Apple Pay" can be inserted.

Why does the Settings list have to be created on the fly and so slowly? /rhetorical

I don't really get what the concern is about these "tools"..... Apple makes this all really simple..... Either you can use iCloud backup to restore or a back via iTunes to restore. Updates can be done OTA or via iTunes on either MAC or Windows with a IPSW. Why is this complicated again and why would I ever use any other tool?

In regards to comments about stability, unless an update is 100% full public released, it is for testing / beta. Therefore expect bugs and be prepared to pivot on a restore. Even the RC for record is for testing and is still technically a beta.
The problem is that iTunes has been replaced on Windows with a suite of new apps, and the Apple Devices app that is now used for iOS device management is basically as good as playing Russian roulette whether it is safe to use or not. Sometimes it will work, more often it is broken and will brick your iPhone.

Here’s a list of glitches I’ve found in the RC. Some were previously fixed and came back.

1. In the music app, if you scroll to the top of the screen and pull down to show the search field, the text at the top will glitch through the search box as you pull downward.

2. Edge highlights on the dock/App Library still get stuck if you open an app before letting it reset. Only way to reset it again is by forcing it to animate again by moving your phone around and then waiting a few seconds for it to reset to default look. This was fixed in 26.1 beta 3 and came back.

3. Closing a widget on the Home Screen will cause it to go blurry for a second before it becomes sharp again. This doesn’t seem to happen on the widget screen but any widget that is on your Home Screen. This was fixed in 26.1 Beta 4 and now it’s back.

4. The search screen in Apple Music where you can select Apple Music or Library still. The selection bubble still glitches out (on your SECOND search). Very weird big.

5. Scrolling to the bottom of your photo library, a slightly darker box appears behind the magnifying glass on the search icon for a second when the icon becomes large.

6. In the music app, when dismissing the now playing screen, the background goes completely white now before it changes to liquid glass. It’s quite distracting especially when the text is already white.

7. When selecting a playback device anywhere in the system, the clock, battery and cellular/wifi symbols turn black which makes them disappear on a dark background. Not sure if this is intentional.

8. In music, when swiping back to the main screen, the “back arrow button” leaves behind a black circle for a second. This is inconsistent with the rest of the system.

I really wish they would add a toggle to disable the animated edge highlights on everything without disabling all animations. Similar to low power mode but without capping the refresh rate to 60Hz.

Man I’m really getting tired of how insanely buggy the new interface is.

The new menu pop out animation is sick though.

As someone who has been doing OTA updates since they were a thing and has never had an issue, this whole line taking over every single beta thread is really irritating.

“Why don’t you use the thing that is tried and true for so many instead of the one that consistently sucks for you?”

“Because I don’t.”

Just to be clear, "Brick your phone" means that it's unusable and has to be brought to an Apple Store for repair because DFU mode doesn't get it going again. And although I'd agree with you regarding the state of Apple's apps on Windows, TBF, that's also a pretty good indication of where Windows itself is as an OS. I guarantee that the number of people that rely on those apps on Windows are few and far between compared to the ones that use macOS, and then even compared to the folks that do this OTA (which is Apple's preferred method to update).

Seriously, though, if you for whatever reason you may have, can ONLY use a Windows PC to perform an update on your iPhone, and you're having issues, I bet a lot of people could benefit from the feedback you'd be able to provide to Apple.

Posting here about these same issues you seem to have all the time obviously gets nowhere fast.

Exactly. It's clear that OTA updates would be way easier for this person, yet they insist on banging their head against the wall and asking us how to make it hurt less.

The worry I have around these Liquid Glass visual glitches are not the glitches themselves, but the inconsistencies of each issue across different parts of the system and apps.

It tells me as a developer that their redesign exposes a bloated operating system.Trying to put a new design system in older AppKit apps versus SwiftUI which has a completely different philosophy but at the same time not as feature-rich.

I hope next year they will release a family of operating systems where their biggest success is removing >50% of the code:
- deprecate AppKit
- all first-party apps on SwiftUI
- Intel support removal
- large legacy-code hunt and removal
- focus on system overhead, optimize!
- huge user reported bug squash initiative

… no new features. That is what we all want.

As an example, look at Apple Mail and how terrible it has become. I can’t even find emails reliably. It’s a legacy app patched for over a decade.
That is an example of something that needs to be recreated from scratch and with actual innovation in mind (look at Gmail and how they created their own API to get rid of IMAP internally). A fresh new front-end on top of that would do wonders.

Recreating Finder on macOS, Calendar, etc would take them out of the early 2000s era. A huge undertaking for sure.

My battery usage stats reset at some point after this update for some reason 😭

Anyone facing stuttering when scrolling in the watch app on the phone?
When I open the app and it goes to My Watch, it works fine. Then I switch to Face Gallery tab and scrolling there goes down to like 3fps. Going back to My Watch and opening Face Gallery again fixes the issue.

I updated my personal 14 pro max to iOS 26.2 rc from iOS 18 and that was the biggest mistake I did in recent years. Perfectly working phone became a brick with stutters and glitches. Honestly I am sick and tired what is happening owing los in recent years. I replaced battery but it’s dying after 2h of use. So what, I need to buy new model to get rid off these bugs?

Even keyboard autocorrection is broken 😡

How long was it since you updated?
My 14 pro works amazingly well on RC.

Another alternative is to download a virtual machine and install macOS on it.

While another known third party tool isn’t exactly desirable to use at least it works (unlike apple devices lol)
I suspect the issue with that tool is in the drivers. Maybe there either out of date, not loading when his phone is connected or losing the connection while the tool runs. Or maybe it’s a permissions issue. Or maybe the app just isn’t supposed to be used for beta installs..

Well, for starters, I ask with every update because it’s the prudent thing to do knowing how temperamental the software is with any given IPSW. I want to get confirmation on whether someone else attempted it or not, and whether or not it worked.

I didn’t bang my head against the wall this time, because I didn’t use it. I refuse to be the test subject for Tim Mengele. Nobody has to take my choice not to use OTA updates personally, everyone can do what they please with their own device. I want to update with a cable.

Second, the louder I am about this issue, the more attention is brought to it, and the more likely Apple is to actually do something about it and make the maintenance of their Windows software a priority. I would rather complain about it and see some positive change rather than continually handwave it and sweep the issue under the rug. If you’re all tired of hearing about it, you should be louder about it too!

I have provided feedback to Apple, many times, but this is a drum that needs to be beat on a bit more publicly. One person constantly bringing attention to a nonfunctional piece of software from the 3 trillion dollar tech company can only have so much of an influence.

Hi,
in Apps / Phone / Call Blocking & Identification, if I remember correctly, it was possible to change the order of the extensions when you have multiple call blocking extensions. It seems I cannot anymore. The modify button do not unlock the ability to swipe the order. Maybe I'm missing something...

I'm using begone to block and the one of my provider to identify.

Previously, by moving Begone on top, it was blocking some caller, the non blocked were identified by the other one.
Fortunately, the current order is the one I want.

Totally agree on Apple Mail, it really needs a lot of attention.
