Yes, I had issues as it wouldn’t accept my existing cards on Apple Pay and I don’t have a credit card. It was a real pain trying to scan my driving licence as it just would not scan it and what I did was scan the back first and then it allowed me to scan on the front. No doubt Apple support will be inundated with calls about this.

I am having the same problem, I have spoken to Apple Support and they just told me to reinstall the OS from my Mac as the iOS didn't install properly. Utter BS.

I will give it a go in trying to scan the back first and see if that works

"Update" That didn't work, it won't do anything when I put my drivers licence in the window. Nothing happens at all, this is so frustrating

Sorry to hear that. As you say, Apple support fobbed you off.
When scanning your drivers license, make sure you have a black background and hold the camera very still for 30 seconds when scanning

I'm 61 but still had to show it my driving license. Fortunately it worked fine but I get that some will find this very intrusive.

Right…. Just got off the phone with Apple Support.

Here’s my situation. My UK account is 15 1/2 years old, created in 2010. Left UK in 2019 to live in another country, never changed my account location because I would have lost some (or all?) of my many purchases. iOS 26.4 is now prompting me for age verification, only giving me the option of a credit card. I don’t have a credit card. I don’t have a U.K. license or identity card. I do have a U.K. passport.

Apple Support says that this is a known issue, that because I have used beta releases in the past (which is a flag on my account) it doesn’t work properly. Apparently this was happening in the beta. They have filed a report to add to the existing ones. Take this with a grain of salt, you kind of get the impression that the people you speak to don’t really know what’s going on.

That’s it, that’s all they can do. In the meantime I have a child locked account.

how about apple "using" the debit card already linked to my apple-id account as the default payment method?

that card is already there, is already verified by apple as valid and everything..

i dont want to scan another card..
i dont want to scan my passport..
i dont want to scan my driving license..

Oh this is a ****ing mess.

  • Me - credit card details with wrong address auto filled. Had to reenter everything again. Eventually worked.
  • 13yo - obv not adult so meh
  • 20yo - only has passport. No credit card or driving license. Not accepted.
  • 22yo - only has passport. No credit card or driving license. Not accepted.
  • Edit: dementia ridden mother. Kill me. She doesn't have anything.
We don't have any 18+ apps but this is literally a **** show.

May end up on GrapheneOS on principle at this rate.

I believe that the won’t accept DEBIT cards because you can be younger than 18 to get one. With a CREDIT card that is not the case. It did the same to me. Wouldn’t accept the DEBIT card I use for my Apple account either.

It’s really bad that Apple assume that people in the UK and Australia and any other countries with this issue have credit cards. The majority of us don’t have credit cards these days so unless you have a drivers license, a lot of people will be completely stuffed on this one.

Well, passport verification works for some, not all.

And we have to thank the British Government and their OSA, allowing this to happen.

I'll stay on iOS 26.3 for now, but unfortunately I KNOW at some point I have to do this.

I want to see of a video of someone doing this process with a passport being successful.

Until then I don’t believe it.

I completely agree. SWMBO does not have a passport and has a DL but doesn't drive any more. We have to keep the DL active, just having to renew it last month [last 10 years]. She only uses it for identification. Apparently if you don't have a passport or a driving licence in the UK, you don't exist.

Having said that, this age verification thing is not really Apple's fault. Blame the UK government.

They are both to blame. Where are the emails that this will be a thing going forward? Advice, hints, tips?

It’s an absolute sham.
