In iOS 26, Apple is introducing a deceptively simple feature that could transform your morning routine: customizable alarm snooze intervals.

The update allows users to set snooze duration anywhere from 1 to 15 minutes, finally breaking free from the rigid 9-minute default that has frustrated iPhone users for years. You can access the feature by tapping any alarm and tapping the number next to "Snooze Duration" in the options.

While it might sound trivial, the change nixes a long-lingering frustration. Some people need just a quick 2-minute buffer before rising from their slumber, while others prefer a longer window to properly wake up. The fixed 9-minute interval – a holdover from mechanical alarm clock limitations – never made sense in the smartphone era.

It's the kind of quality-of-life improvement that feels overdue yet welcome. Sometimes the smallest tweaks make the biggest difference, especially when it comes to your morning routine. iOS 26 is currently in developer beta, with a public beta expected next month and a full release coming in the fall.

My biggest alarm frustration is actually with the Apple Watch. The Wake Alarm is not hidden behind the usual Sleep Lock Screen so sometimes when it goes off, it inadvertently gets turned off in my sleep without me actually interacting with it

Literally the one feature I’ve wanted longer than any other. Better than not having it at all, but in typical Apple fashion, they did a flawed implementation, where the value you set is limited to individual alarms and resets to 9 minutes when you create new alarms (unlike ringtone choices, which actually do persist when you create new alarms).

I’ve reported this as developer feedback but I’m not holding my breath on it getting changed. Still though, progress is progress. 😀

Tyranny? Really? Back in the pre-electronic days an alarm clock rang just once, no snooze, no tyranny. We survived just fine.

I still use a regular alarm clock! I (almost) always wake up before it goes off at 0430, but I still use it!

Edit: It's electric, and from the 80s. Not a wind-up Baby Ben.

Someone was taking this way too personal.

I never had a problem with this…I just set a timer. But glad for you all who need it and especially the article writer who maybe now can finally know peace

off topic tip?
I have the luxury of going to my office when I get there (which means I end up later than other leaving), but as a night owl I love staying up late. I keep hoping that they will add a "sunrise" option for what time the alarm goes off. I decided yesterday to see if I could make it work myself
Shortcuts → Automation → run shortcut 15 minutes before sunrise → (the shortcut is start a 15 minute timer).
