Also just for reference and understanding that it’s a beta (2), how much worse is that when compared to iOS 18 for you? How much do you get with that same usage 100170% on iOS 18?

I get about 5 hours with 70% remaining on my Xʀ on iOS 12 and about 8-9 hours with 70% remaining on my 16 Plus on iOS 18, but it’s impossible to extrapolate and compare different users’ battery life like this.

That’s only accurate if you didn’t use it at all from 00:00 to the time you unplugged.
It’s accurate then. I was asleep. I unplugged it when woke up.

No better or worse.

Beta 1 i kept the phone in Low Power mode because it had excessive drain. The rerelease of beta 1 mostly solved that. But my first full day with beta 2 is definitely on par with 18.5.

Thanks. You are a reasonably heavy user then, right? Somewhat high brightness and relatively power-intensive apps?

Not on weekdays. On the weekend I will do a lot of Gemini Live, Maps, and YouTube. But today was mostly just web surfing, RSS feeds, and podcasts with the occasional email and some online banking. Typical work day.

How high was brightness?

One question regarding your iPhone 15 Pro. Either on iOS 18 or 26 have you noticed, by any chance, that your current device gets hotter than previous iPhone models?

I’m interested in getting one some day, but I’m not sure wether it gets too hot or has battery issues (due to this higher temperatures).
Yes. It used to ! I don’t know if it’s been fixed in a later update but this phone used to get warm just browsing the internet. It doesn’t anymore! unless I’m browsing a webpage with “continuous scrolling” - as in click here to load more. Edit. So, no the phone doesn’t just get warm doing day to day tasks.

On iOS 26 however the phone was getting warm just using it for YouTube (through safari), and battery drain seemed constant throughout the day. Obviously it’s a dev beta and I expected this so no problem. Was very easy to get back to iOS 18.

I think the consensus is that the 15 Pro just had worse thermals than previous phones. Got addressed some with the 16 Pro and the rumor is that the 17 Pro will have even better cooling.
Gahhh!!! After 3-4 weeks in this beta and 308 cycles, my battery health is at 92%!!!

This is a significant decrease compared to the previous drop back in May!!!

I need a new analogy. Let's say cycles are like cigarettes, they cause premature aging. And heat is like... well, heat. Because too much sun is not good for you either. So cycles and heat make your phone older, faster. No one can stay young forever, but you want to minimize your cigs and sunbathing. And just like cigarettes and sun exposure, sometimes you get cancer and... the analogy kinda falls apart. Let's start over: cycles are like chocolate bars...

Which is also how sun and heat is BAD for iPhone batteries too

Little bit disappointing but not unexpected. Plus I'll be trading my phone in for the iPhone 17 Pro in a couple of months.
❌ not me! I only had my 15 Pro for a few months!

4-5 years is the best time I kept every single Apple product!

What’s really bugging me with the iOS 26 beta is how my battery percentage can go DOWN even when it is plugged into a 40w charger. Something that’s certainly never happened before! Hopefully this is something that can be fixed during the beta cycle.

10/10 total disaster y’all! My iPhone battery percentage goes down when on the 20w power strip USB C port and on MagSafe power banks!

Also everyone, happened to be at the Apple Store yesterday as I tested the m4 pro MacBook Pro to its limits. This time I had a chat with an Apple Genius. Was talking about if I was doing the right thing for my iPhone’s battery with all the charge limits, USB C vs wired charging and my usage habits. She assured me that everything I had tried with my iPhone 15 Pro battery was going well. I explained the entire situation, including the rapid decline in battery health after four and five months of use. She asked what types of chargers I used at home.

Here’s what the Genius told me:

She explained that it’s highly likely that the beta version is causing the battery health issues.

She understands that it’s exciting to try out iOS 26 betas and beta versions to experience new features before the public release every summer. I acknowledge that battery life may not be as accurate as it was on iOS 18. Plus it’s too early for battery replacement. Wait until the iPhone is a year and an half old and a little bit after that and the battery dips below 80 percent capacity.

She confirmed that I’m doing a good job of protecting my iPhone battery from further harm based on the advice my friend gave me. (My friend gave me advice from his experience as an alumni Apple employee himself too) and as I use my iPhone frequently, but I limit the use of MagSafe to when I need a power bank or at my desk. I also avoid setting auto-off to never.

This reminded me, I did also notice that MagSafe batteries are unstable and routinely disconnect/reconnect when attached to the device. I tried this with 3 different batteries, 2 of which had “standard” wireless charging and another which had Qi2.

My battery health is at 79% by this point but this is no fault of the beta. It’s still pretty manageable at this point (though the battery banks are a must) and I think I’d be more likely to buy a new phone than just replacing the battery.

5000mAh in the 17 PM does sound like a pretty nice upgrade if the rumors are true
