Can anyone with an iPhone 13 (non-Pro) on PB1 comment on performance, issues, etc? Does it feel especially slow?
I'm curious to try it out but worried that my phone will feel a lot rougher than newer ones.

I have used iPadIS 26 beta 1 on my M1 iPad Pro (13inch) for a few days.

  1. It’s true that the new iPadOS offers much more flexibility compared to previous versions.
  2. But can it replace a MacBook?
For me, it’s still a definite NO.

Here are a few reasons:

  • The browser still behaves more like a mobile browser than a desktop one.
  • Most apps remain mobile versions rather than full desktop-class applications. For example, just compare Office on Mac and iPad — the difference is immediately clear.
  • In general, iPad apps are still far behind Mac apps in terms of productivity.
  • Personally, I need access to the full version of MATLAB, which isn’t available on iPad.
  • While the windowing system has improved, it still feels clunky and lacks the smooth responsiveness you get on a Mac.
Also, in Public Beta 1:

  • When connecting to an external monitor without speakers, the iPad produces no sound at all. On a MacBook, the internal speakers take over — on the iPad, it just goes silent.
  • Even now, there's still no “eject” or “safe removal” option when using an external hard drive with the iPad.

CarPlay issue (first day I’ve had a chance to use it) weird screen UI. Bad sizing layout.

Sent feedback - FB19165309 - incase anyone else is experiencing issues.

It lags a bit on my iPhone 15, so if you are into “need for speed”, I would still wait for them to optimise it a bit more. 🖐️

Did your CarPlay come with the car or do you use a separate unit? Also, there is a new “Smart Display Zoom” option in CarPlay settings for supporting cars (on the unit itself, not on the iPhone) that changes display zoom, so perhaps check that?

Separate unit. Thanks for the reply. I’ll see if I can find that. It’s quite difficult as the touch targets are really small at the moment.
Was working fine with iOS 18.

I’ll report back.

My god man. You’ve bloody well done it !!
Back to normal. Thank you !

I’ll add to the feedback, as this really shouldn’t happen.

Doing something as simple as deleting music from my local library in the music app absolutely demolishes the battery on iOS 26 B4. My 16 PM gets uncomfortably hot within 20 mins and I can run down a full battery in just over 3 hours. This was on a clean ipsw install as well.

That’s crazy and shows there’s much work to do still until September release

16 PM gets so hot doing that, that when you try to charge it at the same time, the iPhone goes into overheat protection and needs to cooldown 😮. The moment you stop deleting things in the music app, the phone cools down quite quickly even when charging wirelesley.

    • For Monitors without speakers, under control center, you will see airplay icon next to the audio. When clicking you should be able to select iPad's speakers. I have this with my Samsung ultrawide that does not come with speakers. I do have the iPad connected to my bluetooth speakers, so can select that one as well

    • Please see below screenshot. iPadOS 26 does come with eject.

On my end, with the latest beta (version 4), I’m experiencing a bug with Face ID on an iPhone 12 Pro. I’m unable to reset the iPhone or disable the Stolen Device Protection. I can’t use Face ID since it’s broken, and it doesn’t accept the passcode either. Is anyone else having this issue?

I don't know how ANYBODY is running this on their daily driver/main device, because overall performance is utterly HORRIFIC (on my 16 Pro Max anyway).

All of the lag and stuttering makes it feel like the phone is constantly in low power mode, but somehow... worse.
Running great for me on my 16 PM… some slight lag when swiping between screens but other than that, performance is great.

When’s the last time you had a clean install and do you install by IPSW or OTA?

Not sure if this is a bug but when typing with the Magic Keyboard on my iPad Pro I don’t get text prediction or auto correction. I get the toolbar that has bold, underline, italics but I only see the text suggestion when I tap show keyboard to get the on screen keyboard.

Just got around to installing beta 4, and while performance is overall pretty good, definitely noticing some lag on the animations. Strangely iPadOS is doing much better than iOS.
