iPhone 16 Pro, 9.69 GB via cellular:

1:12 — Update Requested, Downloading…

1:15 — Preparing Update…

1:48 — Installation started (restart Apple logo, progress bar)

1:57 — Installation complete, fully up and running

So a total of 45 minutes after pressing the install button, but only 9 minutes were actual downtime.

I’m not sure what you mean, any chance of a screenshot?
Not on my device right now, but this one where a button text and icon gets a tint.

This is not from the latest beta, but just to better show which one I mean.

I just installed the new beta! So far it seems good. And I noticed some new splash screens at the beginning highlighting some of the new iPadOS 26 features. The install from start to finish took 13 minutes (including downloading, preparing, and install). 👍🏻

"Microsoft Store"?? Are you a bot? Seriously, you should try and figure out what's wrong with your phone. If this is in fact a real account.
No, I am not a bot. I’m not sure where else you seem to think Apple Devices would even come from, as there has never been a standalone executable to my knowledge. Maybe try reading Apple’s official support document

Ahhh... You're on a PC trying to update using the .ipsw File? You should just update OTA. And if you're making a backup of your iPhone in the Windows app on a PC, that probably also explains your slowness issues and everyone else saying something to the effect of "what?!?".. Because your situation is most likely the outlier here as most folks would backup OTA, or maybe backup locally in Finder on a Mac.. MAYBE.. But on Windows? Yeah, not sure about that one. I'd just assume it would be a disaster before I'd even try 😆

The Apple Devices app seems to work great on some Windows systems, and encounter bugs on some others. This is likely due to the general instability of Windows itself. Apple can’t control Windows’ OS bugs that can impact their apps distributed on that platform, nor should their apps be expected to run as well on Windows with no standardized hardware base to target or pretty much any semblance of software-hardware optimization. But this is a conversation for a different thread.

We need to get this thread back on topic. This isn’t a thread about alleged level of bugs or lack thereof of Apple’s software on other OS platforms, nor is it a thread for complaints about Apple, their software, or their features, it’s a thread for speculation about iOS 26 and correlated releases such as macOS 26 and iPadOS 26. There are other more suitable threads for such other discussions, and users always have the option to create a new thread if they want to discuss other such topics.

At least we got that misunderstanding cleared up… I don’t backup to iCloud so I am already plugging in to do a backup regularly - and especially before any update - so I am already connected when it’s time to actually do the update. That alone is one reason why it makes sense to do it via IPSW instead of OTA, though there are others. I avoid OTA updates whenever possible.

At least backups and restores appear to be functional in Apple Devices, if nothing else, so I continue to use it for this.

The backup portion takes about ~15 or so minutes (this is a good time to seek out the IPSW while this runs in the background, this time it ended up taking about 7 minutes to download the full 9.1GB, which is actually relatively slow for an IPSW download but I imagine the servers were getting hammered as it just dropped minutes earlier)

The update itself took 48 minutes, so a little over an hour in total if you count both altogether

This isn't on topic, but does anyone know why when I click this thread's title, it goes to some random page in the middle instead of where the newest posts start? Also, after seeing the last post, it still shows that there are new posts in here?
This is a "known" issue...the forum software has been broken for about a year now, and no one seems to be in any big hurry to fix it.

There is a thread on it here with more info:

Perhaps if more people comment over there, MR will realize it's becoming a bigger problem/annoyance for its users.

Since B1, every beta update has been huge - all around the 10-12Gb mark. B6 came in at 10.6Gb. I've been on the Beta program for a few years now and cannot remember updates being so large! Or is it just me?
That is because of Apple Intelligence, we never had before. Lots of data.

And that is why older devices which are not capable of AI or devices with AI disabled have only 1-3 GB for a beta update.

I have noticed that the version jump between the Music app in macOS Tahoe Beta 5 and 6 is 4 builds – definitely getting towards feature freeze. So let's see what 26.1 brings us. I'm curious if they will keep on tweaking the liquid a**, or they will be done with it once released. I fear it will be the latter.

I think what we’re seeing in this beta for the Liquid Glass UI is going to be what we see with the final public release, more or less. I think it’s at a good spot overall. I’m guessing from here we’re likely past any major changes to the look of the Liquid Glass UI, probably just some minor tweaks/bug fixes to ensure a consistent look.

I’m also guessing we’re not really going to see many new features in the next few betas either. We’re nearing the final public release in September, so my guess is we’ll mostly be seeing bug fixes and minor tweaks here and there in the next few betas before public release in September. 👍🏻

I’m really interested in seeing what 26.1 will bring. Technically, this iOS cycle has lots of potential to slip in some un-announced features here and there, since the first beta basically already has everything Apple announced at WWDC25.

I’m also really interested in seeing some third-party apps make full use of some of the new iPadOS 26 features, like the Menu Bar. And we’re also rumored to be getting more Apple Intelligence features next spring! This will be an exciting new year for software! 👍🏻

That’s how it looks here (b6, 16PM) … I think the tinting is working to highlight the active sheet and looks pretty glassy… don’t get what’s wrong
Same here, I’m pretty sure this is intended behavior. 👍🏻

PS an example of a similar tinted button in the Photos app on Apple’s official iOS 26 preview page. I think this proves that it’s expected behavior, unless I’m missing something.

Do we think Public Beta is moving to the weekly cadence this week? I forget how long they take to move from biweekly to weekly normally
