I have the blue TechWoven case, but my phone seems to think it's black. Even when I put the case on, the color animation appears to be dark gray.

I seriously dont understand, who would want this? I tried tinting my icons, and in 2 seconds, i'm 100% sure i dont want this. All the icons looks same, its so hard to figure out which icons are which.

Maybe i'm missing something, are you guys using it and do feel its easier to look at all the icons identify them?
It's a nice aesthetic that play with from time to time, but you're right, you don't really realize how much an icon's colour helps in recognizing it until suddenly all the icons are the same colour! So I usually end up switching back pretty soon.

Well, if you aren't going to offer substance, you can at least offer icons that all look alike. Thanks, Timmy!

Agreed. Apple Watch faces have had the option for years to have everything the same color, but I rely too much on color to identify all the complications I use (and I use them a lot). Oh yes, a vintage BMW dashboard color scheme looks very cool, but I stick with multi color.

AND ANOTHER THING ... not sure if this is just me and the images I have for wallpapers, but the option that is supposed to tint your icons to the average color of your wallpaper? Almost every one I've tried it for is this muddy orange-brown shade. I've even tried doing solid colors and it seems to favor that shade over what I'd guess would be the average color. Bug? Feature? My misunderstanding of color theory?

Anyone else notice something like that?

And since the headline photo is of Beats cases (but there is no mention of them in the text), does it work with those too?
I'm wondering this too. Do the Beats cases for iPhone 17 have the required NFC for this to work?

It’s worth noting from the off?

maybe kind of archaic english usage but it means "right off the bat" or "right off the top", "first off".

i'm trying the tinting thing, and it is hard to distinguish between apps now. it looks good but a huge UX tradeoff.

on my 17pro the icons flash black and then become tinted when i switch pages. i don't know if this is a bug or just how it works, but it is distracting. i have a number of visual accomodations turned on which might have something to do with it - increase contrast and limit motion.

No one is using it because it’s absolutely impossible to use it, for the reasons you have just mentioned.

Would be cool if Apple gave you the ability to tint with non-official cases such as an option to take a picture of it and iOS automatically extracts the color and applies it to your icons.
This is a smart idea and would be a good use of  intelligence.

Seriously. Does anyone care about this rubbish? Of all the things Apple can spend their time & resources on!

If only they had you to run the company. I mean, clearly they are practically bankrupt so now’s your chance to show them how to properly run their multinational corporation.

I feel silly as I didn't even know tinted icons existed in iOS 18, shows how Apple tucks away functionalities far away sometimes.

On the flip side, I have no use for this whatsoever, so no biggie.

I wonder if knock off cases will be able to do this too. this could be a new way to tell if youre case is genuine or not

also want to add that with this update i started matching my icons to my phone and at first i was turned off but then after a day i became adjusted. plus i usually use spotlight to search for apps anyway

Why even have icons on your homescreen in your situation I guess?

Except it does not work. Case blue, tint gray. Another interesting and pointless idea that does not work!

Well the apps I frequent are always at the same spot so I go to it by muscle memory. other apps i dont use often i use spotlight

i get why having the same color for all icons isnt good for accessibility but its a nice option to have (although it does make the phone look more cartoonish)

Matched my blue beats case perfectly:

I went back to the full color icons like five minutes later.
