The random pill is the URI field. As of 26.2 it is now populated like it should be.
What purpose does it serve though? You already know which page you're on as you're most likely signed in to post something and you're not likely to need to to go to another page as youre in the middle of typing something into a field. 🤷‍♂️

Man this is some depressing stuff.

There is so much to fix and tweak, and some of it is just bad conceptually to begin with.
Yep. It seems everything they changed created a lot of unintended side effects. We all thought of Liquid Glass as a skin over the existing Springboard, but that would actually be better. This is just broken.

Now some of the issues are because everyone who never used an accessibility option before was told to go and turn off all the transparency and motion and such before the glass tint became an option and I don't think Apple really planned for a large number of their user base to be doing this, so they just didn't test how those features affect Liquid Glass very well.

I love all the optimism that this will get fixed now that Dye is gone. But you know all the focus right now is on More Personal Siri and making the OS work on a foldable, so not sure how much attention Liquid Glass is going to get in the short term.

A really good indicator that your design work is garbage is if a large amount of users feel compelled to turn on accessibility options to mitigate what you've done.

This whole concept needs to be scrapped.

Can’t work out the arrows though, I don’t recall them working anywhere.
The arrows move you between the input fields of whatever form is currently being used on the site.

This has actually been there since the very first version of iOS (or iPhone OS as it was called back then)! Originally the arrows were two buttons labelled "Previous" and "Next". Now in iOS 26, this bar is so devoid of any context that most people are wondering what the heck it's supposed to be, especially since it floats above the keyboard instead of being attached to it like on all previous versions of iOS. Alan Dye... 🤦‍♂️

Context?
Who needs context!?

We are busy "focusing on our content" here.

So these arrows that have been there all along as 'previous' and 'next' that I never noticed before now are all in my face in a design that's supposed to get out of the way?

🤣

I’m luckily still on iOS 18, here’s what they looked like (light mode and dark mode):

The arrows were more inconspicuous, and the tick was a “Done” button, basically meaning “close keyboard”.

Genuinely never even knew they were there. Certainly never used them. Liquid Glass working well then.
On an actual form that is styled like a form and has many user-fillable fields, the new design may make some sense (except for the URL pill), but “forms” with a single field like here in the forum are pretty common as well, and there it makes no sense for the form navigation elements to be so prominent. Not to mention that the floating design takes more space and makes it less clear what is part of the web page versus browser controls.

Regarding the tick, they should be using a button that looks like the one on the iPad keyboard:

Or just tap away from the keyboard like we've always done and can still do. It's simply not needed. It's like they thought 'right we've got this really cool liquid thing going that people are gonna love so we need to come up with ways to cram it in everywhere'. So they needlessly separate stuff from the keyboard just to add useless effects to it and the whole thing causes confusion as its vague and useless to boot.

Yep! And just to clarify, they changed it from "Previous" and "Next" buttons to the arrows in iOS 7 (of course.....), so it's been arrows for a long time, but the "Done" button survived all the way until iOS 26!

As with many other places in iOS 26, using a tick instead makes it completely vague.

I actually appreciate it and use it regularly. On the iPhone, text areas can fill up almost all the screen above the keyboard, so there is little space to tap outside the text area.

In fairness that is a good point. 🫡

Well, the Done (or now, vague tick...) is there to make sure there is always a clear way for people to dismiss the keyboard without having to tap on the page itself, where it's possible that you might have nowhere to tap that isn't a link, etc.

It's a good concept: keep the UI separate from the content.

Edit: beaten by klasma :)

By the way, while I'm ranting about the regression of the Safari UI, look how its UI used to actually stay out of the way of your content:

(you can also see the "Previous", "Next" and "Done" buttons at about 43 seconds in - remember when they used words to tell you what stuff does instead of symbols that could mean anything?)

I dunno. I’ve been tweaking accessibility options since the iPhone 4. Increase contrast and reduce motion.

I had those on before iOS 26 and when I installed 26 I turned the off so that I can see all the issues ... 3 months later, those settings are still off, and while there are some glitches, nothing prevents me from using my iPhone the same way as before. And again, I am not saying what is reported in these threads is not real, just that all of this has not made my usage of my iPhone any different from the past multiple years ...

I really hate that. Changing text labels to iconic buttons has been confusing, especially since sometimes a checkmark replaces Done, Accept, and maybe even cancel!?

That’s a subtle thing that slipped through the cracks of my critiques because I was so bothered by all the chaos of ridiculous bugs combining and mutating with horrible gui design
