iOS 27 adds a new copy-and-paste feature to the iPhone's keyboard, enabling convenient one-tap pasting for text, photos, links, and more.

For example, if you copy a link in Safari and move to the Notes app, a "paste from Safari" option with the link will automatically appear above the keyboard. Tapping on the shortcut adds the link to the note. Or if you copy a photo in the Reddit app and open the Messages app, a "paste from Reddit" option will appear above the keyboard.

Given this feature is built into the keyboard, it works across many combinations of apps, making pasting more convenient across iOS 27.

The keyboard has already surfaced one-time verification codes since iOS 12.

iOS 27 is currently available in developer beta, with a public beta to follow in July. The update is expected to be released to all users with an iPhone 11 or newer in September, and this small yet useful feature will likely be popular.

How about a whole new keyboard that works as well as Gboard on Android??

I have a Pixel 10 Pro XL at work for testing. The keyboard is SOOOO much better than an iPhone keyboard. Slightly bigger keys, number row, awesome tactile feedback, a down carrot to pull down the keyboard at anytime, dragging across they spacebar to move the cursor in ANY app.

It makes the the iPhone keyboard looks so bad.

Just add a copy-paste button within the entire grey space at the bottom... Don’t make it too sensitive, to avoid accidental clicks when swiping up, but do utilize this whole empty space for those who wants it, it’s not that complicated...

The under the hood and CoreAI/FM stuff is actually really nice when paired with Apple Silicon will be very innovative, and the shape of their APIs is so good finally, but UI/UX wise, I continue to be amazed what is counting as "innovative". Android GBoard has had this for at least 4-5 years.

This also seems like a clever way to make unnecessary the “allow paste from…?” confirmation prompt.

Security and convenience are often a trade. It’s particularly satisfying when one feature offers both.

Its a good feature, but I still want a way to copy a website to a note in a single step that is the equivalent to the feature in Evernote.

It sounds great, but in practice it's horrible. Especially on an iPad where that text in the clipboard covers fields where you're supposed to paste it.

wasted space for emoji and dictate icons still, with no number row unless using a13 inch iPad

the iOS keyboard already has both tactile feedback and the ability to hold down on the space bar to move the cursor to another position, and this works in all apps too. the keys being slightly bigger doesn’t make gboard a better keyboard. and there is already a way to dismiss the keyboard in nearly every iOS app as well. the only thing the iOS keyboard doesn’t have is a number row, but the vast majority of users don’t need that, not to mention making the keyboard taller will leave less room for your actual content.

therefore, i don’t really agree that gboard makes the iOS keyboard look bad at all nor do i share the opinion that gboard is that much better than the iOS keyboard. the iOS keyboard has served me well for the past six years and every time i have used an android keyboard it made me want to go back to the iOS keyboard for its simplicity. so honestly gboard is not better than the ios keyboard in my opinion.

Cool. Currently if I copy a URL from the Reddit app and switch to Safari and tap into the location bar and hit the keyboard's paste button, the system asks me if I want to paste from Reddit. Every. Damn. Time.

It's super annoying, and reminds me of the "I'm a Mac" ads that Apple used to run lampooning Vista for requiring user confirmation for everything (here's a clue, I confirmed that I wanted to paste from the other app when I hit the paste button). For some apps this can be turned off on an individual basis, but I have not yet found an option for this for Safari. And it's not taking me straight to the website, it's just pasting into the location bar (that I tapped into) - if I did it by accident, I'd just delete the text instead of hitting return.

GBoard sucks. So busy, full of things that you rarely use.

Press and hold space to move the cursor around in the iPhone keyboard.

Trivial to make a shortcut to do that, since you can set a shortcut to receive the contents of the page currently displayed in Safari.

I would just like to no longer have to fight with getting the phone to offer me Select All Text..... can we please just make these things easier to use? 3D Touch was *SO MUCH* easier to use ..... it ends up taking me 20 seconds to get my phone to agree that i want to select all text whereas it used to be a 1 second operation.

As a matter of fact, I noticed this in the beta, just yesterday. I didn't actually click on it, as it was the first time I'd seen it and I was already autopiloting to the standard (old) paste feature... but I will definitely be using it in the future. It feels like a very intuitive implementation, once you know to look for it.

As someone who uses both an iPhone and an Android tablet, I’ve noticed a frustrating issue on my iPhone that never happens on my Android. When I long-press a photo in a browser and select “copy,” it often pastes the image URL instead of the actual picture.
